Title: Good for Eng?
Post by: 2317 on October 21, 2010, 08:18:08 pm
I hear they have gud practical component?
Low ATAR is a bonus.
but why is it very unpopular? any real reason? or is it just coz its not 'Monash or UoM'?
Should i consider this uni for Civil Engineering? or is there something i should beware of?

Think of job prospects... it might not matter which uni you go to provided that when you graduate, engineers are still in 'high demand'. If you want low ATAR and good rep for eng, try RMIT?

I think they give the most work experience out of any university. They don't have prestige but apparently aren't that bad.

The four main unis for engineering are Swinburne, RMIT, Melbourne Uni and Monash.

In decreasing order of the amount of practical work it goes; Swinburne or RMIT, Monash, Melbourne Uni.

If you really really like practical work then go for either Swinburne or RMIT. However if you don't mind theory, then go to Monash. (My Melb Uni bias says not to go to it for engineering).

I know that Monash and RMIT have compulsory work experience which is what you want in a degree because that's what employers will favour. I'm not sure if it's compulsory for Swinburne
