I'm asking you now for hard, statistical evidence that it does desensitise children? Have you ever taken surveys or research?
Or do all of the Australian gaming community have to rely on your own family problem, "A child being able to watch sex and violence in a movie is damaging to the child, but the child participating in sex and violence in a computer game is worse.".

Actually, scientific research has shown that playing violent video games triggers the same sort of psychological reaction as that of soldiers' when they shoot at humanoid targets to desensitise them to shooting.  Watching it on TV isn't necessarily a good thing by any stretch, but the act of pressing the buttons to make the acts happen does in fact add an extra dimension to the brain's reaction.

Other than that I agree what what you're saying - children are irrelevant to an argument involving a Mature age rating, so long as adults are responsible with their kids.

Heh, funnily enough I just played the L4D2 demo uncensored. Amazing stuff, especially the machete. Can kinda understand why Australia wanted it censored though, but really, just keep it out of kiddies' hands and we're fine.
