Rethinking gamelan now, given the ambiguities in assessment it will seem more like an acting class than anything else, throwing on a jovial and zealous face every week doesn't seem like the effort.

I didn't mean it like that. I didn't put on any fascade or act in anyway during any of my classes. I had a genuine interest and enjoyment for the instruments and what we were playing. Hence, that is why I was kind of unsure about it towards the start of the semester and wanted to test it out leading to the census date. Just come to class trying your best and putting your best effort in like any other subject. I mean a H1 isn't easy for any subject. Obviously it is easier in some than others but all will require some kind of effort to be put forth.

The point is that effort on its own means nothing, when its literally being assessed through enthusiasm and engagement some subjects more than others, it can be feigned so I would expect pretence, where there's no real objective marking scheme fairness gets called into questions and arguments start and all the rest, its good though that you took a genuine interest in the subject it pursued it for only that reason.

I read both reviews. However I still don't understand the steps involved in getting an interview and all the admin stuff in relation to getting a place into this subject.

http://studentcentre.unimelb.edu.au/eastern/subject_information/research_subjects

You contact the supervisors you want to work with and fill in the form on that website (A06b)

I can obviously take on supervisors under the Biomedical Research Table right? because optics, zoology and earth sciences don't interest me. Is there a link to all the different projects on offer or do I have to e-mail them enquiring about that?

Yup it's the Biomed ones. Just look through the Honours booklet for the departments you are interested in and contact the lab heads.

Fair enough mate. Keep in mind those are what I think the attendance/participation mark is comprised of. It was a really fun subject, got more out of it then Music Psychology/Music and Health.
