I know what you mean, but I still maintain that I LEARNT most of the course properly. Also, I remember coming across least squares curve fitting for the first time during my exam revision, so I definitely missed that lecture, and I know I didn't learn that topic properly, I just memorised the algorithm for curve fitting. But most of the other topics, I learnt properly. They make sense in my head.

Anyway, as a mod I really shouldn't be contributing to such a pointless, roundabout point of contention, so I'm gonna stop now.

if i assume your definition of learning is the same as a mathematician's XD

We all know what we know :)
I suppose the difference is between HOPING to do well compared to EXPECTING to do well :)

the difference between hoping to do well and expecting to do well is one thing, "confidence"

I can only relate to you the fact that I did better than you did in Maths Methods  in Year 11, and I rate to do considerably better than you did in Specialist Mathematics in Year 12 (this year).

I am therefore well placed to say that there is no way known that you can properly comprehend all of UMEP maths with the amount of work you claim to have done.

firstly, you coudlnn't be well placed to make any assertions about me, and thats why those who actually know me didnt dispute what I said. you offended me.
secondly, I dont see how 47->50 can be said to be considerably better. Also, I was rated to perform much better than i did in spesh, I was ranked 1st at scotch and one of the fillings in my teeth contracted a few days before my exam, i very literally was having plenty of difficulty thinking in my spesh exam, but i agree with TT, VCE maths doesn't say mean very much.

Thirdly, when did i say i learnt all of UMEP properly? I learnt enough to get my 86, so dont put words in my mouth.

Guys, Einstein got C's in physics in uni alright. VCE/uni scores mean jack--you canNOT tell anything from uni scores (or vce scores etc--@ argonaut)

disclaimer: said information about einstein may be false, just repeating what my lecturer said :D

Hmm I studied for UMEP in true uni student style: did nothing except my assignments all year (and didn't even do a few of the assignments), wagged heaps of Friday morning tutes (7am? really?), crammed all my study into the week before the exams. I learnt all of the exam 1 content in the 4 days before exam 1, then did all my exam 2 study in a weekend, still pulled off a H1. It's doable. I admit, I didn't fully follow everything we were learning throughout the year, but I had so many lightbulb moments in the week cramming leading up to exams, I felt like I understood so much more after revising it.

I am therefore well placed to say that there is no way known that you can properly comprehend all of UMEP maths with the amount of work you claim to have done.
So yes, I assure you, it is possible to comprehend all of UMEP maths with the amount of work that abes did, if you're good at maths. Last year, I went on NMSS and learnt a bunch of number theory, chaos theory and topology in the space of two weeks. Some of that stuff is 3rd year uni level. It's quite possible to learn and understand large volumes of high level maths in a small space of time if it is taught well/if you go about learning it in the correct fashion.

A bit late to the thread but: I would just like to say that third year maths does not mean harder maths. The reason some maths are third year and not first year is because they require knowledge of lower year maths. For instance, abstract algebra is pretty much completely untouched in high school, hence why we have subjects like algebra, topology etc in third year. So with regards to the maths you did, it may have been drawn from areas that are taught in higher years, but I seriously doubt there was anything that actually 'needed' to be third year--otherwise you wouldn't be able to do it if you hadn't learnt the 'basics'.

However, I DO agree that you can learn a lot of high level maths in short periods of time. Whether you remember it or not is another story. I cram every non-pure maths subject I do, and it's both easy and effective. However, it is impossible to do well if you cram pure maths, at least for me. Why? Cramming the information is easy, but you need to do proofs, which you can't 'cram'.

Listen here.
I assume that these boards are visited by many students who are looking for some sort of guidance with their VCE.
You are doing these students a great DISSERVICE by your posturing about how smart you are and by trivialising UMEP maths.
Let me repeat, UMEP maths is tougher than Spesh Maths by a fair margin. Therefore, anyone who 'advises' people that it can be properly done by skipping lectures and just cramming 6 hours before the exams is giving dangerous 'advice'. I, on the other hand have attempted to keep things REAL. And by the amount of backtracking I have seen since I challenged the wild claims made by you and others ... I rest my case.

PS. Your conceit and arrogance is difficult to understand. 49/47 in Methods/Spesh is OK, but no more than that. There are many out there, myself included who would feel GREATLY DISSAPPOINTED if all the got for Methods/Spesh was 49/47

Therefore, anyone who 'advises' people that it can be properly done by skipping lectures and just cramming 6 hours before the exams is giving dangerous 'advice'.

Firstly, I don't know why advice/advise are in inverted commas, as if you're quoting me because I never said either of the words.
Secondly, I never advised people to skip classes:
I have to say that i disagree... i wagged every 3rd class or so, did literally 0 problems from the book and studied for 6 hours before the exams. that was the extent of my UMEP... i think it will very much vary from person to person

Backtracking? I never took back something I said. You're not worth my time - you won't get any more replies from me.
