a question about rankings/study scores/the usual

Hi! So I'm really curious about rankings v exam score and how that might affect my study score!

So for English I'm ranked number 1 in my cohort, with 99/100 for unit 3 SACs. Only problem is, I think I'm in a pretty weak cohort (non selective, suburban public school..) and it isnt hard for me to rank #1. English is my strength.

I dropped the one mark on my oral, so I'm aiming for 100/100 for unit 4.

How will my ranking/my cohort affect my exam score? If I'm ranked 1 and get an A+ on the exam what kind of study score am I looking at? And finally, is it possible to aim for 48-50 range in a weak cohort like this? (Last year our highest score was 46, and before that we got a 50 but he was something of a prodigy I think.)

Thanks so much!

I had the same issue in Year 12.
If you're ranked 1, then you cohort becomes irrelevant. You will be allocated the highest mark in the exam as your SAC score (your exam score will obviously be your own).
As long as you maintain your rank, you'll be fine! It also means any score is possible (including 50).

Ahh, thank you! So just so I'm clear, if you're ranked number 1, your SS will reflect your exam score free of scaling due to cohort?

Yeah, as long as you are rank 1, you have nothing to worry about. Even if someone did better than you on the exam, you would get their exam score as your SAC score, so you are in the best possible position.

Oh is that how it works?
So if I'm rank 1 in Psych and I don't get the best exam mark, I get the best scorer's exam mark as my SAC mark? Please correct me if I'm wrong

What happens if:
You're Rank 1 in SACs, but fail to do well in the exam and the highest exam score is a poor one - say for example it's a B?

Does that mean you get a B your SACs?

Pretty much it would, because that would mean you have a really weak cohort and it'd be unfair to give you an A+ for your SAC's if the exam scores show that your year is at B level.
