Breadth?

Hey everyone. I would really like to do BComm at Melbourne next year, hopefully majoring in actuarial studies, but I also really want to pursue a bit of music education as breadth. All the material I've read seems to suggest that I can only do 8 subjects for first year, with 7 already being pre-decided, and the 8th being a Commerce elective. Can I do music subjects as breadth on top of these 8, or am I only allowed to start breadth subjects in second year?

I think you get 3 breadth subjects for Actuarial Major. Everything else is set in stone. Introduction to actuarial studies isn't a prerequisite but it's good to do it and as its name suggests it's an introduction so it'll give you an idea of what it's really about. So yeah you can do 3 units of music, 1 in each year.

I'd recommend you do a Diploma of Music (Practical).

Yeah actuary is probably the only major that allows the least flexibility. As a lot of your breadths and elective combos are taken up by maths subjects. Also at uni, you get to decide the sequence in how you complete the course (to a certain extent) as long as you meet the pre-requisites for the subject.
