(yet another question about) 45+ English

Hi guy :)

Sorry to be a pain, but my practice exam score have been fluctuating so much and I'd just like to know a few things:

On average, what do you have to get per section for:  46? 48?

Also, is the maximum discrepancy between two markers 2?

EDIT: Fairly strong cohort and ranked around 5th-6th ish, not sure but defs not 1st haha

2012:  Methods [48] Physics [49]
2013:  English [40] (oops) Chemistry [46] Spesh [42] Indo SL [34] Uni Maths: Melb UMEP [4.5] Monash MUEP [just for a bit of fun]
2014:  BAeroEng/BComm

I think that with 7 and 9, you will simply get the average. Any difference greater than two, and it goes to a third examiner (not necessarily the chief examiner, as this occurs in about 5% of cases). You then get the average of the new mark and whichever of the original marks it is closer to.

They have two assessors mark your work and each give it a score out of ten. Then the score out of 20 for each section is used in determining your exam mark (and this is the same for each section).

My teacher said they do this to avoid any concerns from assessors on whether to give a 7 or a 7.5 (for example) for a student's essay in a section. :)

Two assessors mark it.
If the discrepancy is greater than 2 it goes to a third assessor.

... and sometimes they bring in you GAT score (Im certain they do this when it goes to a 5th or 6th assessor)

Okay thanks! Just some creative pieces I've written... gosh

But um, back to my original question:

Does anyone know? :)

I'm also wondering the same, with rank 2 and a pretty strong cohort towards the top :)

Close to the top of a strong cohort, 57/60 would Defs earn a 50 for rank 1, potentially a fifty for less than rank one but surely very very high forties. So rank 1 with 56/60 would get 49 I'm assuming (with some degree of confidence). Alwin, I think for you to get a 46 would probably be around 52 or maybe 53 out of 60, for a 48, maybe 55/60?

Probably pretty similar for you, Vas. Your friend is obvs pretty reliable at rank 1.

To put it into perspective, I got 56/60 for a 46, however I had bad SACs in a cohort not as strong as the two of you. So you guys could score a few points less than me for the same study score, and similarly, a few points additional on your study score for the same exam score.

Wait so if one marker gives me a 7 and the other gives me a 9 will I receive an 8 or will it be remarked by the chief assessor?

If the chief assessor marks it, will it be the average of the three or will only his say count?

Why can't English be more objective like maths/sciences... I can see myself getting my essays marked by a lady on her period at 2 in the morning while the friend I sit next to in English gets his marked by a nice and happy guy lol

Firstly - English is objective (at least to a degree). There is an inflexible set of criteria with a marking system set it place to ensure your piece era the mark you deserve.
Secondly - don't be piggish. If you get a score you're nt happy with you should blame it on your effort instead of a gender. Honestly.

How did you know what your Exam mark was in terms of a score out of 60?

BasicAcid you have a point though I'm reluctant about writing about gender influences/pressures because I may have some feminist marking my work.

this.

on topic: dont worry too much about what marks you need for 45+, in english especially. Its so intangible as a subject, to the extent that its kind of a waste of time to sit around predicting what you'll need. Georgina could write 2 essays on a certain tuesday one fine afternoon. The first essay could be a 14/20 in the 'omniscient' eye of vcaa, while the next could have been a 20/20. The two pieces could have appeared to be of the same standard to Georgina.
Just try your best, and you'll probably get there if you've done things right so far :)

I hate asking for study score predictions and I hate derailing threads and I hate not listening to advice but I am going to do all that .

What score am I looking at for: rank 4, weak cohort and 8-7-8?
2012: Biology [below expectations]
2013: English [below expectations], Chemistry [results pending way under expectations], Methods [below expectations-but happy], specialist [happy], physics [happy]
