Ahahah my response to psyxwar: I enjoy math =p (although the question was directed at you, and you don't even do 3 math).
I swear she was doing spesh ok, now I look bad :(

But fair enough. Further seems boring though

if you don't mind me asking, did you, personally, do well for further? c:

I got a 35 for Further, but its not because I found it hard. I just didn't study enough for the Exam and my SACs. I took it as a breeze and it came back to bite me. However, from doing it as a Year 11 subject, I took from it strategies and lesson to never undermine the difficulty of the subject. It also taught me more about SS's and how to study more efficiently in Year 12. :)

Suddenly, like half the cohort is moving to further without 1/2.. haha and as others say don't do the WHOLE textbook over summer because you'll eventually forget some things.

So you are only doing 2 maths, I thought if psyxwar was right then you would be doing Specialist and Further next year, which is like an awkward mix in my opinion.

I felt both methods exams this year were on the tough side, but were doable =p I took a lot longer than I wanted on the exam 2 though...

further and specialist together in the same year would be an awkward mix, i agree!

from your replies - i assume you're a natural with maths? c; i found it tough too and i'd like to say i deeply disliked that last page of exam 2.

I swear she was doing spesh ok, now I look bad :(

i didn't pick it for its "totally stimulating" course c':

my god, that's going to be me.

i'll be totally undermining it, i just know it. :'c

it's like that at my school too!

Well I undermined it throughout the whole year, and finally realised when it came to Exam 2 the real difficulty of the subject.

If your undermining it now, then you at least know that you shouldn't which is better to learn now rather than when you are actually doing Exam 2 next year. :P

I enjoy doing math, that's where I put a lot of my effort at school. But hey we're on a education forum, there's always someone better at maths than you. (until maybe you hit thushan, he scares me =p)

I actually did the course at the end of last year, I was fine and didn't forget anything but different things work better for different people.

As long as you are still gonna do past Exams and Trial Exams, going ahead isn't a problem. Maths isn't one of those subjects that you forget content for, particularly if you get into the habit of doing lots and lots of exams prior to the actual exam.

I dropped math entirely in Year 11 and picked up Further in Year 12 and duxed (trollolol).

Honestly though, if I had my time again I would've done methods + spesh... If you've already done methods, from what I've read on the forums spesh will be easier for you - I'd recommend spesh instead of further, every single day of the week, no questions asked.

Lol, it's definitely not too late. Just push your teachers and beg them and tell them what they want to hear, that you'll work so hard etc etc. I'm sure if you ask a few times, they'll let you do it.

Mac Rob is pretty strict on who they accept for subjects, such as Spesh. One my friends goes there, and she said that they only allow the top students to do subjects like them. =/

Its worth a shot asking though - Won't hurt at all. You've got nothing to lose, so may as well ask your VCE Coordinator tomorrow? :)

Further Mathematics requires no General Mathematics B knowledge. The content is very easy to understand, and if you are a capable Math student, a teacher isn't even required. To do well in Further Maths, you need to maintain a very high ranking in your cohort, and complete as many practice exams as possible to ensure you do as best as you can on the exam. I was so underprepared for Further Maths, and so was slower in the exams. Luckily I still performed well, but it just could have been better. Good luck :)

Hey, I didn't really want to make a whole new topic so;
I'm doing methods 3/4 next year, and I loved 1/2. And I'm looking to drop one of my other subjects and pick up Further 3/4 next year as well, however I didn't do 1/2.
Could someone explain to me, what General maths (1/2) consisted of, and is any of it relevant to 3/4?
Also, with further, I've heard that you need to pick core math models (or something), do you pick them yourself, or the school does? And how does it work with the end of year exam and stuff?

Thanks!

Topics and concepts taught in General Math 1/2 relate a lot to the Further course, however there is no need to worry as the concepts will be re-taught (in my depth of course) and is easy to pick up.

Regarding the modules, core (data analysis) is compulsory and there are 3 modules you chose from (there are 6). The school usually picks them for you however you can do whichever ones you please in the end of year exam, although i don't recommend it.

Hope that helps.
