Is a 66 normal weighted and a 65 Melbourne weighted cause for concern?

I'm talking CSP here too I might add. I'm not the Sultan of Brunei so I can't afford FFP.

I've seen that much info lately about what's good and what's bad and everyone I know seems to be getting in the 60s and fuarrrrk I don't understand any of it.

That should be fine for rural candidates.

60-69 seems to cover 60th-95th percentile so that's probably people you know are getting in the 60s. It's a pretty huge range

I think you're in a pretty good position. If I'm not mistaken, you are rural right? If so, you will be fine!

Thanks! :) You're quite right, I am indeed from the country. Apparently living amongst the sheep has its perks...

Congrats to everyone getting GAMSAT results.
I can't brave PD right now (I actually just got home from uni, yes it is 2am) but I am curious about the percentile curve this year if anyone has a figure?

Yes, I found S3 helpful for training my reasoning skills. It has a lot of questions on things you haven't studied before so it forces you to use all the information given and apply it.

S1 however is a mixed bag, answers are pretty vague. But more practise questions, the better.

With a 6.5-6.6 GPA and 65 GAMSAT (64 UMelb) do I have a shot at Melb/Deakin/Monash for CSP or BMP? Like a decent shot, not a minimum requirements and hope you get lucky shot. Will probably get 2% bonus I think.

I wouldn't be confident with a GPA below 7 unless I had a GAMSAT above 70.

Is it better to just get the green series for science rather than both?
How accurate are these sorts of things at describing entry criteria? http://pagingdr.net/info/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=207:2014-entry-minimum-scores&catid=56:gpa-and-offer-criteria&Itemid=109
is the value for melbourne uni seems a bit low since the impression i get from reading on this forums are that people need to get crazy gamsat and gpa  ??? :o

You might claw into an interview for Melbourne but you would need a killer interview to get a CSP. If you did get a place with an average interview, you would either get BMP or FFP.

You have a higher chance or getting a CSP at Deakin though, pretty competitive.

Are you biomed for monash? Cause if you're a science kid like at Melbourne, you can't get into the Monash PG Med anymore due to their changes :'(
http://med.monash.edu.au/medical/gippsland/mbbs-pathways.html

I think with a ~6.5GPA and 65 Gammy you have a good shot at Deakin. With regards to Melbourne, I think you're borderline or in the lower proportion of other applicants. If you ace the interview, anything can happen though!

PS. I'm tossing up whether to do the gamsat again next year or in september. I didn't score too well (54 in S1) and this is what resulted in relatively average score. I kind of want to just take one more shot at it but I'm split on whether to risk taking it next year (and if I do crap again) I won't have many options open to me. But at the same time if I take the UK gammy how could I improve my S1 score in the meantime? :(

Thanks! :)

Do both GAMSAT UK this year and GAMSAT AUS next year. Focus on S1 a lot in both times.

How did you study for S1?

That value is the minimum entry requirement. It is probably too low for a CSP or BMP and doesn't say whether it took into account rural students

I reckon a GPA/7 + GAMSAT/100 combo of 1.62 is probably competitive for a CSP, for non-rural candidates.

And as for Des I have no idea what he puts in his Green book since I didn't have it. I had a blue revision book and a red MCQ book.

I know Deakin gives you an extra 2% if you're rural (and an extra 2% on top if you live in Geelong), but does Melbourne actually give any sort of extra benefit for rural applicants? I can't find anything that says it on the website, can anybody point me to it? :)

Nothing tangible (ie no 2% specified). You can submit a grad access application and they'll take it into consideration.

I thought 6.8 GPA and 68+ Melbourne weighted would give you a good shot at the CSP. There are some people on PD who have like 70-80+ GAMSAT scores, even though there is <5% percentile difference so that might have pulled up the average GAMSAT for an interview. The median GAMSAT for an interview might be lower, seeing as how more people will have GAMSAT scores at around mid to high 60s. This is all...random speculation though.

Thanks for your reply Shenz0r.
I wasn't sure how to study for S1 (I hate poetry and reading passages). I just did a few Des MCQs and tests, but scored ranging from 48%-75%. My brain just switches off when it comes to those passages/poems. :(
How did you go for it? How did you study for it?

EDIT: I will sit both if I have to but it just costs so bloody much :(

I got 62 for S1, which I was expecting before the test. I went through Des and used to get pretty crappy scores for its tests (43-50/75) or something, although there was one where I got 56/75. I also did some of Examcrackers, did something like eight tests but didn't finish the book.

I also did the ACER tests as well, and for some reason did much better on those than the Des' test.

I did have a vocab list which I added to on my phone, and occasionally I'd revise using flashcards. I also did look cartoons (espesh from New Yorker) and randomly wrote what I thought about the cartoons. Did the same for poems but it didn't help much, I got more out of poems by spamming questions from ACER and Des.

Wut :O

Because the person asked about confidence and not 'having a chance'.  I'm just saying I would want to be 'in the clear' before I decided not to take the GAMSAT another time.  Of course I would apply if it were time and I had that score but I wouldn't think 'wow now I don't have to do the GAMSAT in third year because I'm definitely guaranteed a place' is what I'm kind of saying...
