Most of you have probably heard recently about the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge - a challenge that basically requires the participant to tip a bucket of ice/icy cold water over their head to raise awareness for motor neurone disease (ALS). The trend goes on where the participant names/nominates several other people they know, and they have to do it within 24 hours or donate $100. (
More info about this)
It's trending all around at the moment - from the US to here in Australia. What I'd like to know is,
what do you think of this idea? Is it good for awareness? Would it be better if they donated AND did the challenge (like some have done)?
I have heard quite a few differing opinions about this 'challenge', from "it's a great idea to make people aware", to "it's a waste of water, it would be better done via direct donation". I personally think it's a great way to make people watch and to make them aware of the statement they're trying to make (most of them say a few words about ALS/the purpose before they actually perform the challenge).
