Monash or RMIT for Civil Engineering?

Hi guys, one of my friend got a high enough ATAR for Civil Engineering at Monash and RMIT, however he's not sure which one is better to go to in terms of teaching and job opportunities.

He's been hearing from people saying that RMIT focuses more on practical work etc whereas Monash focuses more on theory. As of now, he has Monash as the higher preference however after hearing these things from people he's wondering if he should still consider Monash or maybe change to RMIT.

I'm sure there's someone on AN who has experience and knowledge in these courses, please help my friend out~ Thanks

I've also heard that RMIT has a more practical focus than Monash, although I can't vouch for how true this is. If it is true it's probably only marginal anyway and I doubt it would factor into an employers decision when hiring.

In terms of university rankings Monash is ranked by QS at 30 in the world for Civil & Structural Engineering (the highest out of the Victorian uni's) while RMIT is in the 100-150 range. In terms of employer reputation (as he seems interested in this) Monash scored 92.9 out of 100, while RMIT scored 81.5.

Both universities will provide a good education and a wealth of opportunities but I personally would (and did :P) chose Monash.
