Free Unit 4 Lectures!

Bookings through this link: http://bit.ly/1IQFdax

Hey guys!

So, we received some truly amazing feedback from our first Head Start lecture series. Really though, with lecturers like Lauren and Thushan, ATAR Notes lectures were always destined to be the best ;). Click the spoiler to check out some of the things your peers had to say in response to the question, “What was the best thing about the lectures?”

Spoiler
“The notes (when they didn't sell out straight away) and the content.”

“Brilliant content, really concise and clear way(s) of explaining key concepts. The lecturer could explain difficult concepts in more than one way, in an entertaining fashion. Thought provoking and challenging, the lecture was an extremely valuable time that truly accelerated my learning. Would most definitely recommend. Seriously, well done ATAR notes. 9/10 :)

“High quality lecturers who not only break down the main concepts but also the smaller, trickier nuances”

“The amazing lecturers. I attended Methods, Chemistry, Biology and English, and the two lecturers were fantastic. I especially enjoyed the English lecture; I honestly wasn't expecting much out of it due to the fact that different schools studied different texts, but the lecturer gave a really relevant lecture and totally blew me away.”

“Being able to get a head start and the notes.”

“I loved how the lectures were interactive and didn't just involve sitting in a seat for hours staring at a projector. The lecturers had interesting stories to share about their university experiences and Year 12, so it placed things into perspective and made me feel like my lecturer understands me. I also really liked how the lecture was strictly adhered to the VCAA Study Design, which made the lecture extremely relevant, succinct, and to the point.”

“Learning how to do things from a person who has completed the exact course and knows how things work.”

What are the subjects, who are the lecturers?

This series, we're running lectures for Biology,  Chemistry, English, Methods, Physics, Psychology, and Spesh.

Your lecturers - see the spoiler.
Spoiler
For Biology and Chemistry, your lecturer will be the mythical thushan. This is a man who graduated with a 99.95, a Premier's Award in BOTH the subjects that he's lecturing in, won a silver medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad, become a published author in both of these subjects and... I'll stop there. I have a word count, and I'd probably run out if I tried to explain to you how amazing Thushan is. And a damn lot of you will experience that first hand when you absorb his genius at the lectures.

Our English lecturer is none other than lauren9460. After the AMAZING things she's done on the forums (constant essay correction, helpful tips and tricks, writing practice exams), the lady who scored 60/60 in the English exam hardly needs any introduction. After tutoring for years, even I learnt stuff in her January lecture - there's no doubt that she is truly an extremely talent person.

Physics? Alwin. The man who took two university extension subjects just for fun. He's a monster. But, he's not some super-freak. He's the coolest dude you'll ever meet. So cool, he'll probably throw a ball at your face just to illustrate the laws of motion. *Only half joking. 49 in Physics, 48 in Methods, and a future Aerospace Engineer, Alwin was a no brainer when it came to choosing lecturers.

Psychology? yearningforsimplicity. Otherwise known as Farween. Farween graduated with a 48 in HHD and Psychology, and just recently completed a Bachelor of Psychology through the University of Melbourne. She's a published Psychology author, a very experienced tutor and an experienced lecturer. Psych students are in for a treat.

Specialist and Methods. Damn, you need to check out silverpixeli. Matt scored a 50 in Methods, a Premier's Award in Physics, and a 47 RAW in Specialist. He spent 2014 tutoring and also constructed a couple of lectures to deliver to his old school (just in his spare time; because he's a boss). He's continued making his brain even more amazing through the University of Melbourne's Bachelor of Science, where he learns about things that, quite frankly, I'll never understand. You will though, once you've been to his lecture.

When and Where
Lectures will be held at Monash University's Clayton Campus! - from the 29th of June to the 8th of July.

I can confirm that we are running lectures again, and we are running them for free... again! Monash Uni has agreed to let us hold the lectures on their city-like Clayton campus – awesome.

There are two things I need to stress.

Firstly, you must book your tickets extremely soon. I’m not saying this to make sure people rush to book. It’s irrelevant to us whether people book quickly – it’s a free lecture, lol. It’s important because last lecture
series, a lot of people missed out because they (for some reason) waited before booking, not expecting that places would go so quickly. For example, we had over 500 people book a spot for Methods within 48 hours – so, book soon and make sure you and your friends aren’t the ones to miss out.

Secondly, notes will only be sold at the day, and not online. In the last lecture series, the notes literally sold out before most people had even arrived at the venue. We'll be printing a bit more notes this time, but for logistical reasons we won't be making them available online. To those of you who will attend the lecture, we recommend getting down early to ensure you get a copy of the notes!

YAAY HYPE!

I've already had a few PMs asking about the content of this upcoming lecture  (::)) so to clarify:

the difference between 'Unit 3' and 'Unit 4' of English isn't significant - it's really just a matter of minor changes in the SAC marking scheme, so instead of re-treading old ground, this lecture will be more of a skillset workshop. Where the Head Start Lecture dealt with the concepts behind what you are meant to be doing, this one will have a lot more detail about how to actually do these things (eg. concise contentions, kickass topic sentences, etc.)

So if you did go to the Head Start Lecture, don't worry, it definitely won't just be the same content. It's much less of a 'Text Response - Context - Language Analysis' break-down and much more of a 'how to improve ideas, writing, clarity, arguments, analysis' sort of thing.
And if you didn't, also don't worry, there'll be very little assumed knowledge for the purposes of this lecture :)

Put simply, this'll be all about refining where you're at now so that you can get the most out of the second half of the year.

Look forward to seeing you all there! ;D

I actually started laughing when I read the tutor descriptions.

Not because they're funny, but just because the comments are insanely true. #besttutorsinVIC #getonit

Hey guys! This is a great idea and I'm booked for Psych and English :)
Was just curious to know if you knew the prices of the notes for the lectures now or not, as cash money is something that I will have to bring with me :P

If?  I'm not, but I'm going anyway :)

Please can I say, if you've booked but don't end up able to come, please cancel, so that others can get your spot?  Like with English, I knew I wouldn't be free at that time, but I'm like, 'Stuff you.  I've got to go get Lauren's autograph.' :P ... thankfully afternoon lectures became available, so I booked and cancelled the morning.

Even if you don't go to the lecture, I'd advise everyone to atleast buy the notes.

They're a godsend, literally replaced my textbook in Chem and Physics.
