What Chemistry topics are required for the GAMSAT?

Hey everyone. I'm going to be starting my GAMSAT preparation sometime next year, and I need to learn chemistry before doing that. I was wondering what topics were necessary for that? My brother recently got Wiley's Chemistry (2ed, Blackman et al.) textbook for his university subject, and I have been perusing it, but I'm not sure what I need, and what I don't. Thanks so much everyone! These are the chapter titles:

1 The atom
2 The language of chemistry
3 Chemical reactions and stoichiometry
4 Atomic energy levels (I did this in Physics!)
5 Chemical bonding and molecular structure
6 Gases
7 Condensed phases: liquids and solids
8 Chemical thermodynamics
9 Chemical equilibria
10 Solutions and solubility
11 Acids and bases
12 Oxidation and reduction
13 Transition metal chemistry
14 The p-block elements
15 Reaction kinetics
16 The chemistry of carbon
17 Chirality
18 Haloalkanes
19 Alcohols, amines and related compounds
20 Spectroscopy
21 Aldehydes and ketones
22 Carbohydrates
23 Carboxylic acids and their derivatives
24 Amino acids and proteins
25 The chemistry of DNA
26 Polymers
27 Nuclear chemistry

Keep in mind that I have no foundation in chemistry at all.

Thanks everyone!

I have Wiley's, not a fan. Just remember in the GAMSAT whilst it's important to have an understanding of first year Chemistry, it's equally as important to be able to apply that knowledge in new and unfamiliar settings.
Everyone learns different and different things work for different people.

Do you recommend any other books? (Anywhere I can buy lecture notes or something?) I'm up to 1.3 (The structure of the atom). I'm making notes, and drawing diagrams and stuff. I'm understanding everything so far. So, from what I can gather, this book covers Chem I and Chem II, which is like first year Chem. So if I went through the whole book, would thay be a good base? I've got heaps of time until the GAMSAT, so there is no rush.

I think McMurry's organic Chemistry is a fantastic textbook. If you feel that is going well for you then keep going through it and develop a solid understanding of the core topics. Once you go over that I'd consider starting to cover practice questions.

Like VCE practice questions and stuff? Thanks so much. I asked the same question on pagingdrforum and they banned me... :o I really appreciate it!

Not VCE for Chemistry or Biology, both topics require a University-level knowledge. I'd suggest getting your hands on the official ACER preparation material (by signing up to do the GAMSAT) or other 3rd parties like Des, PrepGenie, etc. As for Physics, although it says "Year 12 level" in the ACER handbook, the VCE exams require a calciulator and you can't have one in the GAMSAT. Again 3rd parties will be helpful here

MCAT is really good to use for GAMSAT study too :) https://students-residents.aamc.org/applying-medical-school/article/whats-mcat-exam/#cpfb Click on download the entire exam content PDF it will give a good outline on what to cover. Note your main goal should be to work on reasoning skills and understanding things quickly so make that a primary goal when studying :)
