From what I've heard, the MCAT syllabus, and their style of questions are similar to the GAMSAT. But I don't think you should use only MCAT resources (I know that they are easier to come by though), you should use a mix of both. Have you already completed 1st year Chem, 1st year Biol and year 12 physics? I'm going to complete those (I've already done Physics though) before actually attempting GAMSAT questions. How are you going to study for the essay section?

I'm starting first year this year, with chem and bio first year subjects. I am getting a tutor for section 2 as It is hard to dictate wether or not an individuals essays are correct. There is a random quote generator, which i can pm you if you want. As the essay in the gamsat is a quote, I'll just write essays of random quotes

Its good that your doing a BSc because you get to do those subjects properly. I'm just blindly going through 1000 page textbooks. Yeah, it would be great if you could PM me the generator. Thanks!

It's not even worth preparing the GAMSAT this early, is it? Just seems like an extra burden at this rate when we haven't even got all of the knowledge for the science section.

I'm like way behind all you Science and BioMed kids, so I think its appropriate. When are you going to start studying?

Well, Science is only one out of THREE sections for the GAMSAT. If you're a really keen bean why wait until the end of the year to start writing essays and practising your reading comprehension?  :P

This is so true. There is no need to leave your preparation for the summer before 2nd year, it's going to make things more difficult if anything, because you've never sat the exam and now have to try to get a taste for all 3 sections in about 3 months. If you can sprinkle some preparation in during first year, e.g. writing essays (probably the best time because you're fresh out of Year 12) and tackling some Section I MCQs you leave yourself in a much better position for the summer break. Firstly you'll have one section to focus on for 3 months. Secondly you can actually give yourself a break and not drive yourself mad studying everyday during the summer.

What kind of things do they look for in the essay :P

This can be found in the ACER handbook for the GAMSAT, they specify what makes a "good" essay.

The Examkracker's verbal reasoning book is very good! Plus the passages are actually interesting  :P Highly recommend it :)
