Is it worth doing two Englishes if you're good at them?

Hi,

English is my best subject. I'm not sure though whether doing two in Year 12 would be beneficial; I was thinking of doing IS 3/4. What do you think?
Thanks

A) WTFs enrichment english?
B) I don't get the idea of these super vce programs where you do a whole bunch of 'wasted' subjects?

I'm doing English and Literature. I'd say if you're good enough, go for it, plus if you stuff one up it's not necessarily apart of your top 4.

Interesting line up of subjects and structure, wildareal. I wonder what school you go to.

Anyway, there are three people doing English and Literature at my school. All three are exceptional in both subjects. Do it if you enjoy English a lot and writing essays are a breeze for you.

For me, I don't think it's worth it.

I was in SEAL but they never mentioned 5 1+2's in year 10.
I went to Mordialloc S.C. so that may be why.

Same with any subject really; if you're good at it, then do it. VCE is just about playing your strengths because theoretically, you could get any ENTER with any subject (except 99.95 in certain circumstances due to the need of something which scales above 50). I'd say English is even more worthwhile because you have to have one in your top 4 anyway, so if you're good at them, having one as a backup if needed is a great bonus to have.

What do you want to do at uni?

If you are good at (and enjoy) English, then by all means do 2. You should choose subjects which cater to your strengths and interests.

I remember my VCE English teacher telling me "do English if you want a better chance at a high score, but do Literature if you want depth of knowledge" or something along those lines.

In my experience IS is a great subject to do only if you are interested in this area. Otherwise, it becomes tedious, because to do well you really need to do research beyond the (only published) textbook for the course.

Enrichment English is a course made up which is done if you have done Literature 1/2 in Year 10 and have no English (apart from Normal English 1/2) in year 11. It's a mix of Literature and Normal.

It's a good idea to do both so you can have one as a backup. One of my friends did Lit last year and only got a 28 for it and as it counts in her top 4, she decided to pick up English this year as she doesn't want to have a 28 in her top 4

Also note that you'll need to learn how to write in different styles; with English, you want to aim for simplicity, whereas Lit favours wanky pseudo-pretentious flowery stuff.

Well worth doing both if you love English though.  Although on the downside Lit makes English look boring in comparison.  >.>
