I love real life spy/history novels...
Yes <3

I know I've already mentioned this elsewhere but I also find making paint goblins on Sims 4 good fun too :P

I have things I do, but I don't think I do any of them enough for it to be a hobby, so this is more of a 'things I sometimes do and enjoy' post

Reading: I love reading all kinds of books. My favourite genre, however, is fantasy -- I absolutely love 'A Song of Ice and Fire'. My first series was Harry Potter, which I started reading in hosptal because, well, there's not much to do in a hospital.

Martial arts: Been on-off this my entire life. I initially started with boxing, as my father did a lot of amateur boxing, so I was trained on occasion to do this. I'm more of a counterpuncher with this. I've only been twice this year though, so definitely not a hobby. I've done a bit of Muay Thai and Krav in the pats, but not in ages. I really want to get into BJJ though -- I think that'd be something I'd really enjoy.

Art stuff: <-- the technical term. I enjoy drawing, but honestly, I'm really shit haha. I'll usually draw something and then throw it out after -- I enjoy the process, but I don't really keep them to look at. For a bit over a month now, I've been playing acoustic guitar, which is enjoyable. I started because of how beautiful this song is.

Sports: I've never played on a team or anything, because I wasn'r allowed to as a kid, but I frequently play with some of my mates. We don't stick to one sport. Sometimes basketball, sometimes soccer, sometimes rugby.

- Reading: I particuarly like non-fiction books but I'll read most things if it gets suggested to me. Parents used to run a bookshop so there's never been a shortage of books for me to go through. Big fan of historical stuff but also old books that aren't in print anymore - old medical dictionaries, mathematical instruction books from the 40s (#goals), just anything that looks cool. Used to read a lot of fantasy novels but after doing literature in school I just don't enjoy them any more - most of the stuff I find is a boring rehash of LOTR mashed in with Dragon Lance or something and doesn't have a lot of significance other than it can be fun. Not saying that it's a bad thing but I generally prefer that sort of stuff in a more visual medium.

- Music. Played flute from year 7 (also picked up piccolo and recorder, everyone's favourite) but quit in year 11 because I messed up my wrist and I was prioitising school. Gotten back into it this year, much more fun to just play whatever instead of drilling scales for exams and trying to keep up with a percussion section in a band ::). I mostly play the piccolo when I'm home alone on account of it being very loud and obnoxious.

- Artsy stuff. I'm really bad but I like drawing and painting anyway. I jump around from subject to subject and material to material - I recently got into ink and brush but I use a lot of coloured pencil and markers (I especially love metallic markers), or digital, and I love charcoal, but I always come back to graphite. I'd like to get good into oil paints so I can make satiristic renditions of famous traditional paintings but the price point is a bit prohibitive and I'm not sure I really have the space to set up for traditional painting anyway. Not a lot of artsy social events around me though so it's pretty solitary.

- Pokemon. Feels silly to call it a hobby, but I've played every game to completion at least a few times and I play most days. Currently working on making a shiny live pokedex and I'm not even close. Maybe this means I'm lowkey into eugenics because one of my favourite parts of pokemon is breeding them to be the best even though I don't play competitively. Maybe I just like making cute little animals fight each other.  wouldn't call it passion but it's something I really like doing.

- Honourable mentions: Recently got into gardening, it's fun and my rabbit likes eating all the weeds which is cool. Woodworking and DIY also, but tools and materials are expensive so I don't do it often. I used to play a lot of video games but I've mostly moved on from that - usually I just pick up stuff that my friends and family are in to so we can chill together. Exceptions are obviously pokemon but also I'm really into Age of Empires II. Movies and TV, there's a lot of shows that I've really enjoyed and continue to enjoy (LOST mostly). I don't play sports or anything cool but I like going outside and looking and plants and birds and stuff which is pretty easy bc there's some sick parks in my area.

I just do a lot of whatever and if it sticks, it sticks. I would say that it's about 50-50 on hobbies I decided to get in to (i.e. Music and Drawing) vs. stuff that just developed over time (like Pokemon and Reading).

Really interesting thread! I feel like recently all I really have time to focus on is uni, and it's been that way since about year 10, just focusing on academics. But some of the things I've always really enjoyed or am trying currently to get into include:

Reading - I loved reading more than anything through primary school, mostly since I was really shy. Incidentally, I kind of stopped with Harry Potter - probably my all time favourite series, and the one I always go back and re-read. Haven't really found time to sit down and read - can't justify wasting my whole evening reading instead of studying. I'm currently reading the Song of Ice and Fire series, and I loved the depth of John Green novels. I have a shelf at home with individual random stories from when my dad worked near All Books 4 Less  (a bargain shop where they sold unfamiliar titles for 3 for $5). Excellent past time when you find time for it. Spending time in libraries or bookstores is very aesthetic and relaxing too.
Creative - This is something I did when I had the time. Just sitting down and making nice things was aesthetically pleasing for me, and still is. I used to enjoy making cards and things, editing quotes and lyrics to stick on my wall. I recently started volunteering for the MS gift wrap, which not only is a great cause but I've developed a serious passion for gift wrapping, which is so lovely.
Cards - I'd always really enjoyed playing cards. The first time was probably when I went to India some years ago, and we never had much to do, so my family used to play card games from their childhood before bed. In year 10, I met some guys who were into cardistry, one of them even performed at weddings! I loved it and attempted it too, but it's not easy, and due to some personal reasons, I dropped it soon after. I'm trying to pick it up again now, but I need a proper deck for it. I started card games again in year 10, when me, my maths teacher and friends used to play at lunch and after school, and we did this all through school. It's always been such an easy, variable, fun thing to do with any number of people, its portable and there's so much to do with a single deck!
Writing - I used to love writing short stories when I was very young, but I lost passion for fun stories, and as my life experience began to grow, stories of myth and fun just didn't grab me any more, and I developed more of an interest in stories of struggle and pain. I think that's why I developed an interest when we studied poetry in year 9 - it seemed a lot more real to me, and I related much more to it. I took a writing subject in year 10 that I really loved. I wish I still could write poetry and stories, but I can't really write well unless under pressure to, and need a theme to write on. I can't creatively express thoughts and emotions at all - I can draw on my life experience when I need to write, but I can't write to reflect on life experience. Which kind of sucks, I really like my writing when I can actually produce something.
Photography - This is something I have always appreciated, but never had a chance to do. For the last few months I have been trying to take photos on my phone but the quality is pretty bad. Can't wait to get a decent camera and a license and visit some really nice places and just take aesthetic scenic photos. Love looking at nice photos too!
Music - Music had always been really big in my life. My parents put me and my sister in piano lessons since about 6 years old, and my dad always had music playing in the car and on stereos at home. I found listening to music a really helpful way of relating to someone with emotions, and escaping the world.
Exercise - I hated sport and physical activity in general virtually my whole life, but I took out a gym membership a couple months ago, and I really enjoyed going there in the evenings and just having some time for myself and feeling good and healthy and working towards body goals, before injuring my back.
Knitting - I actually picked this up about 8 years ago. My mum and sister and I used to go to India for a month or two over the summer and we had virtually nothing to do, so my mum and grandma taught us how to knit. I was never great at it, but I improved upon getting back to Australia. I used to buy Lincraft ruffle yarns for $2 and knit them. I probably made about 15, so I started making them for my friends. Now I have about 7 spares, so I might just give them to homeless people before next winter and once I can make some more. A really nice past time to do while listening to music in a blanket in the winter!

Hope this has inspired some new passions in you <3  :)

I mostly draw portraits but before that it was always landscapes, which I'd really like to get back into. Most of my friends in HS drew cartoons though, so I've tried my hand at that as well. :)

Book-wise, it depends what you're interested in but some recommendations off the top of my head:
- The Secret History and The Goldfinch by Donna Tarrt
- The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
- The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri
- If We Were Villains by M. L. Rio - especially if you like The Secret History or Shakespeare!
- Rivers of London (Peter Grant series) by Ben Aaronovitch
- Girl at War by Sara Novic
- The Madwoman Upstairs by Catherine Lowell

Nice to see everyone's hobbies, here are mine  :)

Making spotify playlists
I love listening to new music, categorizing it in my playlists, etc. Has a bonus of meaning I have heaps to listen to when I'm on the bus or studying.

Game development
For me, it's the ultimate form of programming. I'm currently working on https://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=59139, but I've had less time with my increased studying. Game development can require a lot of time.

Ripstiking
This is pretty dorky, especially if you knew me in person. Ripstik's are pretty old, two wheeled casterboards. Picture a skateboard where you have to ride in a curve to accelerate. I don't go to a skatepark or anything, but it's fun to ride around on smooth paths around town.

I also spend way too long watching TV shows (GOT) but given how time consuming it is I would prefer to not class that as a hobby yet ahaha.
I like programming, engineering and science💻⚙️

Been really interesting reading about everyone's hobbies! :)
Reading
Reading has always been one of my main passions, I've loved reading since I was very young, one of my earliest memories was reading a book when I was about 4. One of my favourites of all time is Harry Potter (nice to see a few potterheads on here!) but I'm really into classical literature too (1984, Ray Bradbury, JANE AUSTEN  ;) Bronte sisters, etc.), non fiction (mainly my physics books, like Stephen Hawking) and screenplays.
movies!
I love watching movies and dissecting them (and reading screenplays!) I'm a real film critic. I like to research about the production, development, casting, critical reception, marketing, etc. I enjoy mainly sci-fi action type movies, I could never watch a slapstick comedy haha. I'm a big fan of all the Nolan films (dohhh), Tarantino, stuff like Leon The Professional, etc.
Writing
I like to write poetry and prose, mainly very silly and abstract, meaningless stuff but it makes me happy. I also write novels (mainly sci fi) and lately screenplays!
health/baking
I'm a massive health junkie and I am kinda obsessed with baking (but healthy  ;) read: oatmeal muffins, sugar free apple oatmeal cake, 2 ingredient banana cookies, banana donuts, etc. hehe! I'm also really passionate about exercise and being healthy as well - I love bike riding.
Also - listening to music (mainly 80s stuff, weird indie folk/alt pop bands that no one knows about), crafty things, hand lettering, etc. :)

Nah I shouldn't say I blatantly hate reading novels...it just has to get my attention within the first few pages, or it will never get read at all. I love real life spy/history novels....but thats about it... ::)

So you want something that grabs you within the first couple of pages??
I have it; Alistair Maclean
Also, in a very similar vein... Dennis Wheatley, and John Buchan.

So from that, you can prolly guess....
My main hobby is Reading.

It's kinda something I've always done. Like, has anyone here read the entire series of the 'Little Golden Books'?
I read through all the "ValueTales" before I was  8.
Pretty much devoured all the little classics, from Enid Blyton, to Howard Pyle's Robin Hood, to the Billabong series, to L.M.Alcott, to Charlotte Bronte and her Sis, to H. Rider Haggard, to WWII semi-fiction (Eric Williams and Paul Brickhill), to Alistair Maclean, to the classics of Fyodor Dostoyevsky and to the really big chef d'oeuvre's like 1984.
Don't kill me over this, but.... :-[
I have never, ever even opened a Harry Potter book.... :P  ;D

!984 brings in another fav hobby/interest; Debating.
Tried to explain the Orwellian classic to the truck driver at work experience...
Finally got to the end, and the guy, stereotypically Aussie, says; "Sounds like a shit talker to me..."
 :o Barbarians... :-\

So yeah, thats pretty much my hobbies. Picking the right book but the wrong argument.  8)

Music
I've played the guitar for 3 years and the piano for less than 2 years. I didn't have any intentions to play any instruments until my school offered lessons. I took school lessons for guitar and external, private lessons for piano. Initially, I found playing the guitar to be okay and not that interesting. I was learning some chords and playing along to random songs. After watching a ton of YouTube videos though, I was inspired by musicians (like Sungha Jung and Andrew Foy) and became fascinated by their style of playing. I gained a different perspective of the instruments after seeing them play songs that I knew (contemporary, radio songs) and wanted to be able to do that as well. Ever since I've become extremely passionate about playing the guitar and hence it motivated me to play piano as well. It really is relaxing and satisfying to be able to play these instruments and I'm glad I made the choice.

Totally understandable Strawberries, I feel like most the time all I'm doing is studying/planning my course too :P (couldn't figure out how to quote from 1st page). However, I'd say a have a few hobbies, which are:

Exercise/group fitness/gym/being healthy
Apologies for the seemingly generic answer based on what I'd read so far, but honestly getting into exercise was probably one of the best choices I'd made! Prior to around yr10, I've never really been into sports or exercise (apart from in primary school, but that was mainly a social thing), which my parents were kind of on my back about around yr9 (since after that no more school PE). It probably sounds weird for a year 9, since admitably most participants are older, but for some reason (most likely based on the Wii Fit game :P ), I said I'd try a step aerobics class, which ended up being Les Mills BodyStep. Although the first couple of classes were difficult and confusing, the instructor was really encouraging, and I found it to be a fun workout. I was going once a week for a little while, then stopped, and noticed the difference (I.e. Legs were softer, I was tired easier), so wanted to get back into it, and eventually got a membership around mid yr10, and started going 3 times a week. Around this time, I also started eating ridiculously healthy (never starving myself or anything, just making the right choices), and after about 3 or so months, noticed I was ~7 kilos lighter, which significantly improved my self confidence (I wasn't really overweight to start, but i feel I was pretty much ideal after I lost those extra kilos). So after that I pretty much feel in love with exercise, and all its benefits. These days, I mix it up with gym workouts or BodyPump for strength, and cycle/GRIT ect for cardio. Unfortunately, I no longer have the will power to eat super duper healthy, but I still aim for 5 veggies a day.

Apps
Lol, not sure if this counts, but I'm in love with Sims Freeplay (have to fight not to ply them during uni semester). I think I just get addicted to things way too easily, but I'm pretty much emotionally attached to my sims, and I'm still planing what the future families, houses, self inventented story lines ect will be xD. Also, I like episode too, although a lot of the stories are quite predictable.

Music
I have no musically talent, but there are some many bands/singers/songs i love. It's probably weird for a 19 y.o, but I really love all the 90s/early 2000s pop (Backstreet Boys, Nsync, Five, old school Brittany), and well as rock (Queen, The Offspring, Green Day), and I even like some of the stuff I hear today (mostly through group fitness classes)

YESSS group classes are the best! I love the how the instructors are so filled with energy :D BodyPump is my favourite :)
Life is weird and crazy as heck but what can you do?
