Guess it depends what sort of stuff you like, but here's a few that come to mind (will doubtlessly be adding to this list as I remember more!)
- I don't know if it's classified as a documentary per se, but
Daniel Menzel - A Long Way Home is amazing. Daniel's a professional AFL player who did his ACL 4 times and has managed to come back and keep on playing (which is just bloody phenomenal from a physio point of view, as even doing your ACL once can end your career)
- If you're into soccer,
November 16 is about Australia's qualification for its first World Cup (2006) since 1974. Really good.
-
Inside the Firestorm - this one's about Black Saturday. Sad, but a really good doco.
-
Before the Flood - this is Leonardo Di Caprio's one about climate change. I've only seen the first part of it though, because it depressed me too much haha.
-
Einsatzgruppen: The Nazi Death Squads -> content warning with this one - it's not a sugar coated documentary, so just be wary that there's video of dead bodies and graphic descriptions
-
Auschwitz - The Nazis and the Final Solution - I got shown this in year 11 history, imo one of the better docos about the concentration camps out there
- Can't go past
Planet Earth, or any David Attenborough doco, really
I also recently watched one about thalidomide that was really good, but can't remember the name of it right now.
On my to watch list, at the moment, is:
- He Named Me Malala
- The Humans of New York video series that's been recently released (super excited for this!)
