Heya pals!

I want to watch a documentary per week to broaden my horizons, entertain myself, and to learn a little. I have netflix and SBS on Demand, but will search the net for whatever it is you've come across and enjoy.

I know sudodds like An Idiot Abroad, but I cringe at British Humour :(

What else has interested you all? :)

Guess it depends what sort of stuff you like, but here's a few that come to mind (will doubtlessly be adding to this list as I remember more!) :)

- I don't know if it's classified as a documentary per se, but Daniel Menzel - A Long Way Home is amazing. Daniel's a professional AFL player who did his ACL 4 times and has managed to come back and keep on playing (which is just bloody phenomenal from a physio point of view, as even doing your ACL once can end your career)

- If you're into soccer, November 16 is about Australia's qualification for its first World Cup (2006) since 1974. Really good.

- Inside the Firestorm - this one's about Black Saturday. Sad, but a really good doco.

- Before the Flood - this is Leonardo Di Caprio's one about climate change. I've only seen the first part of it though, because it depressed me too much haha.

- Einsatzgruppen: The Nazi Death Squads -> content warning with this one - it's not a sugar coated documentary, so just be wary that there's video of dead bodies and graphic descriptions

- Auschwitz - The Nazis and the Final Solution - I got shown this in year 11 history, imo one of the better docos about the concentration camps out there

- Can't go past Planet Earth, or any David Attenborough doco, really

I also recently watched one about thalidomide that was really good, but can't remember the name of it right now.

On my to watch list, at the moment, is:
- He Named Me Malala
- The Humans of New York video series that's been recently released (super excited for this!)

:(

An Honest Liar: A retired magician goes around exposing faith healers and other con artists preying on people.

Going Clear: A brief history of Scientiology, a talk about the structure, then a bit on some of their various abuses. Very good.

The Act of Killing: About the individuals involved in the Indonesian mass killings in the '60s. Don't watch it if you're already sad.

Touching the Void: An interesting documentary where two climbers set out to reach the summit of a mountain, in snowing conditions. Seemed interesting when I watched it, and maybe you'll like it too? :)

just a heads up this is what she doesn't think is funny.

Tbh I think it's more your problem elyse.

But anyways, 'Hate Thy Neighbour' on VICE is really good! British comedian (soz ;) ) who is mixed race goes across the world to interact with a variety of racist hate groups - white supremacists, black supremacists, he even stays with a Neo Nazi in the first episode I think. Was very very interesting (and also deeply concerning - but still very interesting!) Also really enjoy watching anything produced by Watch Cut on Youtube. Not very long videos, but they often come in a series. And of course as Caleb said, anything Theroux aha

Here are my list of interesting and hopefully not stereotypical recommendations.
Born Rich : Made by Jamie Johnson, It takes a very eye-opening and unique view at intergenerational wealth. It also features a Young Ivananka Trump too.

Criminal Kids: Life Sentence : This one was hard to watch, really hard.. Very interesting look at child criminals in the US.

Dear Zachary: A letter to a son about his father : A must-watch documentary, I'm not revealing any details about this. All I will say is this will make you cry.

The Century of the Self : Very excellent documentary series on how to manipulate people using psychology.

Find my Phone : Filmmaker’s phone gets stolen decides to use his phone’s footage and put it into a video. Unique and smart

How to brainwash a nation : Haven’t seen the full version yet, but from the clips it is quite compelling and shocking. An ex-KGB agent explains techniques and methods Russia uses to destroy nations.

Labiaplasty : This is a look at the Australian Classification Board’s view on vagina in porn. If they deem it offensive, porn companies must digitally edit or remove part of the labia to make it seem acceptable. This one was more for humor, but still weird and just plain funny.

There are many more I can add, I haven’t even added some of my favourites. But these should keep you occupied for a while :D
Jack of all trades, master of none.
Hence why i'm in all these different threads and boards.
