Commerce & Engineering pathways at UniMelb and Monash

So upon looking at some courses that involve these two fields, I found that as of 2017, Melb. Uni stopped allowing you to do a Masters of Engineering from BComm... pretty bs if you ask me. Engineering being my primary choice for a career, should I do a BSci and then do the Masters degree at Melbourne, or do the double at Monash? My immediate preference is Melbourne, however I've been told that the Commerce Engineering double is quite powerful going into the work force. There is also the Masters of Engineering paired with business option that seems fairly new.

I will list some of my personal pro's and con's of each option below, but the real question is whether or not the double is worth it, as opposed to doing Science then Engineering.

Melbourne Uni: BSci -> ME

Pros:
- Less travel time
- More desirable social life and opportunities
- Can do a major in physics

Cons:
- Cannot get any formal qualifications in Commerce (can still get experience through breadths)

Monash: BComm & BEngineering

Pros:
- Straight-forward study model
- Both Commerce & Engineering

Cons:
- Longer travel time (by car as opposed to public transport)
- Cannot do physics (not sure about that one)

Comparisons: Melb (left) vs Monash (right) (correct me if I'm wrong with any of these)

Cost: $93,000 vs $47500

Duration: 5 years both ways (not sure if you need to do an honours year at Melbourne)

Let me know your opinions, cheers!

I can't comment much on this topic (being a non-engineering student :P), but would just like to point out (in case you weren't aware) that at Monash, the first year of engineering is a 'common' first year, where you get to sample the different disciplines to inform your second year specialisation decision. I think that means you would be able to move into your specialty earlier (compared to unimelb)? Also with respect to the physics, I don't believe you get much exposure to 'non-engineering' physics beyond first year.

2017-20: BSc (Stats)/BBiomedSc [Monash]

Hey

Curious to know which you chose etc. I am also planning to do commerce and engineering next year
