congrats on your results!

Seems like you got super unlucky with your study scores but great to see that you are happy with your ATAR. Getting 4 scores in the top 10% for four very different subjects is also a massive achievement in itself!

As for tutoring, I don't think it is a complete barrier. Some companies have certain study score thresholds for who they hire but it is still very possible tutor.

Hey Arty!
First congratulations on your results and your course offer. To be so close to 40 in so many subjects is disappointing but still a great achievement and your ATAR itself is amazing (thank goodness for specialist scaling). Also, I can't believe that you only lost six marks on the art exam yet only got a 39 - that does seem unfair to me (but also proves how incredible you are at art despite not hitting the 40 - I've loved following all your artworks by the way, you are so talented!).

All the best for your course at Unimelb and thank you for an awesome VCE journal this year  8)

Hey Arty,

Firstly, I'm so proud of you. I understand your disappointment, and I know it hurts, but know what you achieved wasn't a small feat. It's not easy to score so consistently well in all subjects, yet you did! I know you're down about art - but I've said this before and will say it again. A study score doesn't define your knowledge or passion for a subject. Losing only 6 marks on the exam is incredible, and although you wanted a higher study score, I also want you to know that you are such an amazing artist and so many people love seeing your artwork. A study score can never change that. I know it's hard to come out of, but know that we are all so proud and happy for you and what you've achieved last year. You were so hardworking and persistent, and nothing can take that away from you. Secondly, congrats on your ATAR! Amazing work.

All the best for uni and beyond! May 2021 be your year.

Thanks so much for your kind words Whys! It really means a lot. Yes I do agree although it’s saddening to me at the moment, scores really don’t equate to passion  :)
I’m so grateful you followed along my journal, congrats on your offer too!  :D

I'm a bit late to the party but.....

Congratulations Arty!!!!!

I can understand how that can be so frustrating and disappointing with being so close to the 40's, however, that amazing atar can hopefully make up for it a bit to show the amazing work and dedication you put in all throughout the year. That really sucks with Art, but as others have said, it should never define your love for the subject, and the amazing art you've done throughout the year and that you'll hopefully continue to do. I'm so happy and proud for all the you have achieved, and i've absolutely loved reading your journal throughout the year.

Best of luck with 2021 and uni!

Thanks so much for your kind words Geoo - they mean a lot!
I'm so grateful that you followed my journal this year! xx

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I’m writing this journal post on my new laptop so I’m really excited

So today’s journal post is is just going to be a brief life update, and an official conclusion to this journal!!

I will always be disappointed with my VCE outcome. Every time I think about my scores, I get so so sad with myself and my efforts. The fact that I didn’t get a single 40+ always disappoints me, and honestly, it will remain something I’ll always look back on with so much regret. It was not meant to end the way it did.

But anyway, enough about VCE.
I’m so excited to continue my learning journey!!!! :)

I’ve been accepted into the BSci at Melbourne Uni - my dream and goal from the beginning - and I’m excited to start! I’m not entirely sure where I’m going from there, but right now I’m thinking of things along this lines of Pharmacology/Bioengineering/Chemistry as my majors. I’m a bit lost with all the subject selection stuff ah ha. I want to do something majorly chemistry related - the pharmaceutical side of things does interest me!!

Save me as I attempted to learn biology from the start though.
Why did I do Physics in VCE when I’m not planning on continuing it.

I think my subjects in first year will be chemistry, biology and maths? Honestly I’m not really sure if I really need maths or not, or if I should do one semester. I don’t know who to ask oops.

I’m excited to go to Uni and follow my science passions, and hopefully achieve my goals and dreams. I want to be in a field where I can help others, but also have fun and have balance in life. We’ll see where life takes me I guess!

Anyway, takes me to the end of this journal post, and my VCE journey in general.
I seriously appreciate and I’m so grateful to everyone who read even a tiny bit of my journal in the crazy 2020. All your support, replies and kind words mean so much to me, and I really mean it when I say it got me through 2020! I don’t know what I’d do without AN, and I’m so thankful I found this little corner of the internet. Also, I’ll be around answering so many of your maths and science questions, and I’m so excited to start modding as well!!

To the class of 2021 and beyond, I wish you all the best of luck in your VCE years! Please enjoy school while you can, enjoy yourselves and I’m hope you all reach your goals and dreams. No matter what, if you want to chat, need help or have questions, my PM’s are always open! You’ve got this xx

I’ve made it to the end of the yellow brick road.
Let’s begin another journey.

Hi Arty!

It's great to see you're excited to start Science at Unimelb! It's a great course!

With regards to your first year subjects, I think you're selection's really good, and will definitely keep your options open. You'll definitely need Calculus 2 if you're doing Bioengineering (more info available here https://study.unimelb.edu.au/find/courses/major/bioengineering-systems/what-will-i-study/), and it's probably good to do the 2 first year engineering subjects for Bioengineering too. I've also heard Calc 2/Linear Algebra is pretty useful for a Chem major, since there's a lot of mathsy stuff in chem.

On a side note, since you did say that you did not complete VCE bio, but will be doing introductory bio this year, I will highly recommend you to self-study cell biology/molecular biology content (including genetics) over this break before uni. I've heard the introductory bio subject covers the exact same content as the normal bio subject for those who did VCE bio, so that means there will be a lot to study! Since the subjects you will be doing are quite intense, I think it would be good to go over some of it beforehand so you'll be less stressed during the semester.

Finally, best of luck for Uni and I'm sure you'll achieve your goals and dreams!
