Hi all!

Once the GAT has finished on Wednesday, feel free to use this thread to compare answers, to ask any questions you have, and for any other post-GAT discussion. :)

Good luck, everybody!

My first GAT is over  :o
I honestly have no estimate of how well or how poorly I did, I feel like I was cohesive within my writing tasks but also feel like I could have done better. I enjoyed some of the MCQ's, did pretty well in the english ones, but a lot of others were pretty ambiguous and I ended up guessing around 6 answers.
How did everyone do?

Did everyone  get “pessimistic” for the cartoon question with the kid lifting weights?

It was okay-ish. I found the writing topics quite good and somewhat enjoyable to write about - but some of the mcq were a bit annoying. Made a complete guess on around 4 of the mcq, half guessed a few.

I was expecting more cartoons/proverbs in the english section tbh. I found it so hard to distinguish with some answers though. Maths section was okay.

Overall, not bad. Its a bit difficult to say how well I did - but not bad?? How did everyone else do?

I was stuck between pessimistic and ‘self-serving’ I think it was. Ended up doing self serving because she wanted to get herself involved I guess? Probably got it wrong though.

Oops I put the annoying/persistent option bc the kids face was annoyed and he clearly didn’t need help

What were the essay topics?

They all resolved around adventure and I picked

1. Adventure doesn’t always involve risk; adventure is in everyday life (something along these lines)

There was also
2. From adventure there is learning (also not quoted 100%)

Hmm that is fair point but pessimistic is when she always thinks the worst outcome is going to happen so that must be what she is otherwise she wouldn’t have helped the kid out

I put tiresome  :o I interpreted as the mother wants to be involved in everything and tends to annoy her child a lot

I ended up putting tiresome, but it hindsight it prob wasn’t that

I’ll chuck in the rest of my answers while I’m here.

I dunno but it just felt really weird to write a persuasive text after 2 years of not writing any

I got self serving, because it was clear she was only helping him for her own peace of mind instead of letting him persist himself (could be wrong tho)

I thought it was alright, the writing was surprisingly enjoyable haha

Have I ever mentioned, the GAT is my favourite exam?

I may have done something unwise; thoughts? In writing task 2 I used a quote from 'Ransom' (one of my English novels) because it fitted so well, and then I also used and somewhat analysed a quote from 'The Last Battle' (CS Lewis) about adventure. Was this the wrong thing to do??

RE the cartoon q - I think I put tiresome. It felt kinda unclear.
