In mathematical notation, study scores are distributed such that X~N(30 ,49), in other words, with a mean of 30 and a standard deviation of 7. If you integrate the Gaussian distribution function from negative infinity to 39, the area would be 0.9, meaning that you’ve beaten about 10% of the bio cohort

You mean I probably scored in the top 10% of the Bio cohort (that sounds pretty good, but I'm aiming for a high ATAR)?

You did, congrats. Although it doesn't look as good as a raw 40, it will likely scale to a 40. Don't beat yourself about it, I got screwed over by bio when I was in year 11 (can't memorise pedantic VCAA stock responses even if my life depended on it). I used the lessons learned in terms of study strategies to do better in 3/4 chem. Since you did bio, unit 4 chem will be infinitely easier

Hey, thanks!
ps You said in a previous post "so I brute forced explanation questions in the short answer section for chem, this got me a 40 raw in it."
What do you mean exactly? I'm taking Chem next year so would be good to get some tips  :D

By explanation questions, I mean those questions where a very specific response is needed with exact keywords, similar to VCE bio. VCAA is very pedantic with this and will steal marks from you for missing a keyword even if your understanding is otherwise 100% conceptually correct.
