Just curious, what are you doing in Chemistry right now?

Also, good luck with your composition performance! You'll do well!

Aww cheers  :)

Atm in chem we are doing fuels and thermochem, redox etc as part of AoS1

One of my teachers suggested I just go ahead and finish all the content for AoS1 especially since I'm not great with redox haha

Yeah, for chem my class is also doing thermochem and fuels, but our SAC for AOS1 is split into two. We're not starting redox and galvanic cells till later after our experimental design for calorimetry. Are you enjoying the AOS1 topics so far? I'd have to be honest that I find fuels rather boring, but I don't mind thermochem so much. I'm more excited for redox since I actually really enjoyed it in year 11. I have my first chem SAC on Monday which is kinda terrifying though, but hopefully I can get through it in one piece haha. It's just hard because the fuels topic is soooooooooo dense with information! :(

Redox is just straight up one of my most favourite things about chemistry atm.

Its just so coool and it makes sense.

Yes! I agree! It's so logical, once you understand it! Like it's just genius! ;D

Our teacher (I'm from the QCE system btw), was quite passionate about the topic and explained it really, really well. And if we didn't understand him, we had Tyler Dewitt videos that used really cool visuals and just made sense!

Term 1 Week 3

General Update

Hi fam 😊
I decided to post this on Wednesday just so I might have some more things to say.

For once I am actually on top of all my work!! I got this app called WaterDo and it is so good (made by the same people as Forest) and I highly recommend! (it does cost money though). I think it has 100% made a huge difference to my productivity in just a week and I’m feeling pretty good about myself ngl

On a less happy note, my composition performance with my friend on Monday didn’t go so well. In short, he walked out of the auditorium mid-performance. I won’t say much more about it, mostly because I get anxious that someone from my school might read this and piece together who I am. I actually get quite bad anxiety about the whole VCE journal thing, but I’m determined to continue. Just won’t include super specific stuff that could identify me I suppose. Anyone else like that?

Spesh

Last week for once in my life spesh actually made sense! We are moving lightning fast through content like NO other subject I take it's crazy. I forget how useful edrolo can be for consolidating what we learn in class. I’m just really slow to process stuff and need lots of practice time (which is hard to come by these days would you believe), is anyone else like that? We've moved onto Mod functions and ellipses, hyperbolas and I think we'll cover parametric equations tomorrow.

Yesterday I actually finished the work in class which was a miracle. I need to talk to my teacher about a study score goal because she seems to think I’ll get a 30 but I want a 35 ☹. I know that’d be hard but I want to try because I want every shot I’ve got at this scholarship in Brisbane as I will be broke af and at least it would pay some air fares XD

English

ALA in English is just one of my favourite things ever, because it is SO satisfying when you write a decent paragraph. I sat down and wrote a whole paragraph in 20 minutes (bear with me guys it's week 3  ;D) and I was pretty chuffed because it's not terrible. I think I focused too much on each specific detail about the article though, and not enough about the broader strategy employed by the author etc. I'll take it to my teacher tomorrow and see what she thinks. I reeealllly want my creative SAC mark back and I know it's gunna take a hundred years but I just really want to know if I got that 30/30. I'm honestly expecting maybe 27 or 28/30 given that I think I left a few important things out of my statement of intention. My teacher said it was 30 material but idk what she actually meant. I probs need to stop expecting so high because the reality is probably less than I'm expecting. I'll be very disappointed if I get a 25 tho. Oh well. I tried my best right?

Chem

I am loving chem this week. These thermochemical equations are so fun and the pracs are great, we are going to burn biodiesel tomorrow that we made in class last week and I'm really excited to put some theory into practice. I've moved ahead of my class on content per the advice of my teacher and started looking at redox because as I mentioned before I am just bad at it, and I will need a lot of practice with it.

On another note, I've been thinking lately that I'm expecting way too much of myself. I did so good on last year's exams, but I know that doesn't directly translate into year 12 scores, hence why I'm scared about this english mark, and I wanted to ask people's opinions of how much your year 11 scores are a reflection of your capabilities for year 12?
I think I need to stop expecting 100s of myself because they're rarely going to happen, and just settle down and try my very best. It's all anyone can ask, right? Obsessing over numbers does me no favours.

Anyway I know it was a long update, but thanks for reading anyway fam. I hope you're all having a good week!!

~ Lemur  ;D

I'm exactly the same! I write a lot of stuff I that end up deleting because I'm worried that people from my school would connect the dots and realise it's me. There's sooo many stories that I would love to tell. I continue post anyways because it is really fun and it makes for great memories to look back on once we're older and not concerned with school or uni. It's still quite sad that we feel like we have to keep this anonymous.

*Gasp* yes I always write stuff and delete it  :'( oh well it makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one!
Plus the journals are worth it, I think it's going to be a really good snapshot of my VCE, regardless of my ATAR.

Hi Lemur!

It’s good to hear school is going well, although I’m sorry to hear your performance didn’t go well.

I actually get quite bad anxiety about the whole VCE journal thing, but I’m determined to continue. Just won’t include super specific stuff that could identify me I suppose. Anyone else like that?

I get this. I’m thinking of doing a uni journal but I don’t want anyone to work out who I am. It shouldn’t matter, but I’d rather stay anonymous on the internet.

I’m just really slow to process stuff and need lots of practice time (which is hard to come by these days would you believe), is anyone else like that?

I think I’m a bit like this too, although it may just be that I’m not satisfied until I completely understand things.

Personally, my year 12 marks were similar to and sometimes better than my year 11 marks. This can vary based on a lot of factors though, and the important thing in year 12 is ranking rather than percentages. I know it’s hard not to focus on grades, but as long as you try your best and work hard, it should translate into good final results.

Actually yes I can definitely identify with that, especially since I always aim pretty high so if I don't quite understand absolutely everything I feel so crazy behind. So practice is key!! 🗝️

Yeah I agree actually about rank being more important than percentages. French will be easier to get a higher rank I think, but chem? that's gonna take a LOT of work  ;D there's a lot of smart ppl in my cohort.

Yesss dude! I understand the feeling completely. Trust me when I say you aint alone.

Yo, with redox, try out the Tyler Dewitt videos on YouTube. He explains that jazz like he breathes it. If you want links, feel free to ask!

Personally speaking, I did trash in year 11. The formative assessments were trial and error. But, I figured out where I went wrong (cough cough studying techniques cough cough), and I did much better in my IA1's. If you did well in year 11, you're more likely to do well in year 12 (is what I think), because you would've nailed the techniques and skills you need; just this time, applying it to different theory.

Thought this was just me too. When I write my journal, I go that's too personal and delete some stuff.  I really hope no one knows who I actually am.
