Doing more than 22 VCE Units

Hi,
I was just wondering about doing more than 22 units. Some schools on their websites say “Contact an administrator if you would like to do 22+ subjects” and I was wondering was this was pertaining to. And if it was possible to do more than 22 and if so how many was the maximum?

Hi there,

I'm assuming you mean units instead of subjects in the first part of your post?

Students at many schools typically do six subjects (12 units) in Year 11, and drop a subject and do five in Year 12 (10 units). This adds up to 22 units. You can certainly do more than this and there isn't a maximum according to VCAA. However, there is only a maximum number of subjects that can count towards your ATAR, and also you might not be eligible for some subjects (e.g. EAL or advanced languages if you don't meet the requirements). Also, it is highly likely that your school wouldn't let you do more than six, seven or eight subjects.
