chances of getting into law

Hey all,

I really really wanna get into some sort of law degree at monash. i got my enter today (being 96.35) and just wanted to know if i had any chance at all of getting into one of their degrees straight out.

If anyone has any personal experience in this matter it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, anyone know the best way of transfering from one of the other unis to monash (ie// which uni is the best to get into, what specific course - single, double degree etc)

Really, any comments or experience at all would be amazingly appreciated.

Thanks.

Did you apply for SEAS or any special consideration etc.?

As for transferring - it's easier to transfer internally. So it's probably best that you do a degree at Monash (like arts or commerce), get really good marks, then transfer to law.

Going interstate is not a better choice for many people.

With an ENTER score of 96.xx there is next to no chance of getting into law at monash without some sort of special consideration. Law at monash has consistently been in the 99's with dips into the 98's now and then(such as last year). As Ninwa has mentioned, your best bet is an internal transfer. You should do any degree that you enjoy and then transfer, you will need about a distinction average.

what would be my chances of getting into any law double degree (not really fussed but ideally engineering) with an ENTER of 98.95?

Possible but not likely. Again, an internal transfer is the way to go - I have a friend who got 95ish, got an 80+ average in first year subjects, and transferred to a Law double degree with minimal effort. 98.95 COULD get you into a Law/Something course but you're best off just spending a year making sure you get an HD average in order to transfer.

As i previously mentioned, Law at Monash is generally in the 99's. Last year we had entry at 98.xx, but i stress that a clearly in rank in the 98's is an anomaly. But the silver lining is that it might stay in the 98's this year. so there is hope, just apply for something else as well to make sure

Can anyone speculate on my chances on entry to law at monash with 99.65? Even if it was 98.xx last year, wouldn't this have increased greatly, due to Melbourne opting for the JD programme, hence more demand at Monash....

Jejak/chief - you should get in straight off no trouble.
Chief, even if last year was an anomaly - if you did humanities, went well in english etc you should get in fringe enter, because of the bonus aggregate system
Ie 45-50 in Lit or English = 2 points; 40+ in a humanities subject = 1; max 5

The demand for Law at monash should stay the same as the Melbourne Model had already been implemented last year. The thing that i think will affect the Entry score for this year and which lead to the 98.xx entry score last year is the wipe out of domestic full fee undergraduate places.

Pretty sure JD program started last year?
I got in with 99.60. You'll be fine :P

I'm not sure that they'll look at your English and Literature scores?
But I think 99+ should be pretty safe as (apart from last year) the required ENTER has always been around 99 (but I think ~99.40 for commerce/law)
