Hi monokekie, glad to help out as per your request via PM.

I'm not sure about downloading e-books, but you will need to buy Chemistry and Maths textbooks.

On Linear Algebra, "Elementary Linear Algebra" is the recommended book. You can find it at the unimelb bookstore. any book by that name should do the job though!

For Chemistry, a book buy Zumdahl is the recommended text. I can't remember exactly which one, someone else might be able to help!

Best of luck -- keen to be getting started so soon.

If you want something actually related to chemical engineering, then Coulson and Richardson's book is the one to look at.
Some snippets of what goes on in IRC:

I heard it was a waste of money.  Can't confirm it, but word of mouth from friends.

YES. Its a waste of money, especially that stupid Calculus Book.
The Linear Algebra one was somewhat useful  in helping me filling the gaps in my lecture book when I did summer semester.

Shrink-wrapped?  As in, together at the same time bundled together?

Yep indeed. The modelling kit is very fun to play with. Its useful when you are learning the organic chemistry stuff.
