I would also like to know a bit about the trimester system.

The workloads must be the same as in an old semester so are the deadlines shorter and harder to complete tasks in? Do you have to sacrifice a bit of work quality to make deadlines or is it just a case of stricter time management?

I was under the impression that they are the same lengths as a semester, but they just squeeze 3 of them into a year, which means you get less breaks/time off.  I'm probably wrong though.

So you are doing 42 weeks of work in 36 weeks each year.  That doesn't sound too bad.  If you push yourself, I'm sure it would be easily achievable.

according to my sister

trimester is:

you have trimester one and two which is like semester 1 and 2 but they are a bit shorter because trimester 3 (which is like a summer unit at monash etc which is only optional as well) has been made to be the same amount of time as the first two trimesters so those students who choose to do a summer unit aren't as compacted with the workload as other unis but that would mean you wouldn't get much of a break (holiday time) if you choose to do a trimester three unit but then again you may finish your course sooner. however there are not alot of units for science students so it depends on what type of course you are doing but they are trying to get more trimester three units available.

My brother underwent the trimester system at the Australian Insitute of Public Safety. He basically started uni at the end of January and didn't finish until mid December. After I got results he still had a few days of Uni left. In terms of his timetable, he either had 3 full days of Uni with 2 days off or 4 shorter days. Plus he got 2 week holidays inbetween trimesters

if you want a rough idea of the trimester school calendar look here http://www.bond.edu.au/life-at-bond/academic-calendar/semester-dates/semester-dates-2010/index.htm

although it's bond, i can imagine its very similar.

thinking about doing this, kill yourself for 2 years and get it done, one year of work equates to about 35 or so thousand so it's a pretty good deal

on the other hand i've heard it's pretty hard and others say it's stupid and you don't get the 'full' experience out of university

Someone I know who's doing nursing at Deakin has complained that there is now too much pressure close to exam time.

She said that SWOTVAC pretty much no longer exists because they need to cram 3 semesters into a year, so it's become very difficult to learn and consolidate everything in time for exams.

Personally, I'm a fan of the trimester system... I wish Monash would offer CSP units over the summer.
