I went through the trimester system. It's fine.

Had a major assignment (something I spent at least 40 hours on) due on Friday then had the exam for the subject 2 days later (on the Monday).
The second trimester we had 14 straight weeks. 12 weeks of uni + 2 weeks of exams straight after. This meant we finished uni around mid October.
