Physics in GAMSAT?!

Well apparently in Section 3 component of the GAMSAT requires some previous knowledge on Physics. I have not done VCE physics and have been contemplating for the last few days as to whether i should pick up Physics Fundamentals and then complete Physics 2 in semester 2. At my subject advice session i asked the dude just this and he said he had no idea about the GAMSAT and (he was full sarcastic LOL). But anyway he said that if i was correct and because i was unsure about whether my brain can actually cope with what i presume will be a vigorous semester of mind boggling Physics 2 in semester 2 then i should just do fundamentals in semester 1 to see what its like and upon completion if i feel as though i hate physics i can transfer to Calculus 2 seeing as though ive gotten more than 30 for spesh. While we're on the topic of Calculus 2 i've been receiveing e-mails saying that i have not met the pre requisits for calculus 2 but im sure i got more than 30 raw for spesh so i guess ill just call them up on monday.

Anyways is knowledge of Physics integral when sitting the Gamsat?

The problem could be because you didn't do calc 1. The same happened with me, but when I spoke to someone it was fixed.

As for the GAMSAT part, according to this (http://www.gamsat.edu.au/images/infobook/gamsat_infobook.pdf), you need physics.

About the Calculus 2 thing, you need to get that manually approved at the Student Centre.

About the Physics in GAMSAT, VCE Physics (or Fundamentals) is adequate, but having done that as well as Physics 2 makes a lot of difference in understanding the material.

If I had the choice of taking Calculus or Physics, I would choose Physics (you will eventually need to learn the Physics stuff for GAMSAT anyway)

I didn't do VCE physics and was in a similar situation to you. Therefore, I decided to pick Physics 1 Fundamentals and Physics 2 Life Sciences (which, I think, is more targeted towards health sciences).

Personally, I found both semesters challenging, but very interesting. Physics fundamentals was a bit of a shock: fast paced and a completely different way of thinking to other sciences I have done (chem + bio). The bad lecturers didn't help either. Specialist maths, however, will give you an advantage :)

In comparison, the lecturers in second semester were fantastic. The content was more interesting and example based (hence more difficult).
Although I received better marks in first semester, I definitely found second semester more enjoyable.
Even without VCE physics, it IS possible to get H2As and H1s with a bit of effort and study.

I would recommend completing both semesters of physics, since not all of the VCE material (hence the stuff that will be tested on the GAMSAT), is taught in fundamentals.

One of my friends from school (who didn't do VCE physics) who is doing biomedicine was telling me about physics for biomedicine and I couldn't believe how the subject tried to cover a lot of areas of physics (most of us physics guys got to slowly go through this stuff in VCE). For anyone who never did physics before it would be a lot of work.

Is Physics 1 Fundamentals the same as Physics for biomedicine?

Yeah the GAMSAT physics - the required knowledge is year 12 physics, unlike chem and bio which is first year uni.

so unless you want to study by yourself the year 12 course or have a tutor guide your through during the holidays or whatnot, do basic physics at uni so you have the year 12 course under your belt:)

After a quick look at the handbook (handbook.unimelb.edu.au), it looks like physics for biomed includes some (but not all) of the concepts covered in both physics 1 fundamentals and physics 2. For example, from the description, physics for biomed doesn't include optics and gravitation. The topics (in physics for biomed) don't seem to be covered in as much detail and depth, however, this is just the impression I get from the subject overview.

Physics for Biomed starts off with Mechanics, followed by all the Physics Life Sciences stuff. Have no idea how they cover that much =\
