Repeating a subject

Is it worth repeating a subject if you do really bad in it? Do they even let you, and if so do they keep your old score anyway?

I think if you do bad at uni, it stays on your academic record. Sometimes you will have to wait for the next year to repeat the subject if it's only run in a specific semester.

Yeah, pretty sure it stays on your academic record, so as long as you pass there's really no point wasting the time and money doing the subject again...

While we're on the subject of academic record, when employers look at that record, they will get to see all the subjects you've completed at that institution, right?  I've heard extra-curricular activities can go on it.  What else is on it?

Do failed subjects appear on the academic transcript? Even if you do it again and pass?

What? Really? Maybe for UoM, but not Monash? (highly doubt it though)

Here's what the Monash one looks like:

And yes AFAIK failed subjects stay on your record - you can see that it records what you've done each year, so I'm assuming you'd have something like
2010 - [failed subject] [mark]
2011 - [same subject] [mark]

I believe only your subject, grades and major will appear on the transcript.

You can repeat it if you fail. Then the better mark appears on your academic transcript (though not on your statement of results on ISIS). Your academic transcript is the one that counts though.

P.S. Is this because you're doing badly in Analysis 1? Don't worry about it that much - it always gets scaled up massively at the end...

oh that sounds alright
I'm doing ok-ish in analysis now, it' s just that screwing up the exam would really, really suck

(I had a look at some past exams... 3 hours writing out proofs I have no idea how to start is gonna be great fun)

Sorry, I must have got confused with one extra-curricular activity.  At UoM, if you complete the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award while you are at uni, then it will be recognised on your transcript of results.  I guess that's the only thing other than subjects, grades and major.

Lol this is like my Real Analysis subject.

The exam will be 3 hours of proofs and I have had 6 assignments where you do atleast 70 proofs per assignment. I'm doing average with assignments (70% average), but I am shit scared of the exam.

@ Edmund - How are you going to study for intro personal finance? I don't know where to find past exams!

Yo, don't worry too much about analysis one. Just talking to a flatmate who got ninety-something for it, but did 10-20% worse in assessments, the exam was 'easy' and it scaled like crazy (this was last year). Also, I think you're better off generally just doing different subjects lest you be bored to tears. Plus, it means you can finish earlier than what you'd be able to otherwise.
