SOME primary teachers should become specialists to allow schools to better cope with the increasingly crowded curriculum, says an expert on quality teaching.

Professor Stephen Dinham, the new research director for teaching and leadership at the Australian Council for Educational Research, is calling for significant changes to primary teacher training so that some can become specialists rather than everyone being a generalist."
