Hey guys

Just thought i'd make a thread for resources/discussion for you guys. Last year there wasn't too many med hopefuls, but there seems to be quite a few this year

The best resource is faculty staff and current students. An abundance of the latter can be found at

www.medstudentsonline.com

There also some other interesting sites

www.mymedicalcareer.com.au

As you are aware, there is no longer an undergraduate scheme for medicine at UoM, due to the changeover to their new graduate scheme in 2011. However, there is also a new graduate scheme at Deakin this year. This means two things:

1) The UMAT score required for interview at monash will therefore be higher

2) You must seriously consider applying interstate

Interstate applications are common for prospective meddies, and it is wise to widen your options.

What about Biomed --> Med at UoM?

Too long?

Not at all apple

That course works out to be 7 years long, which is only a year longer than the monash course if you undertake the medical science year. It is likely to be a bit more costly though. But med students tend to want to med as soon as they can, undergraduate programs are therefore more popular. I have wondered whether UoM might compromise with a UQ styled provisional entry scheme for their truly bright students, that they don't want to lose monash, simple because they can become doctors faster there.

Thanks BA22. My sister wants to do Med, but she wants to do it in UoM (ahh yes... :P). So she wants to know how long it would take.

I'm hoping to do med at uni, really hope I get in!

Question but for anyone who's doing it at the moment, how many hours a week are most med students able to work? I'm just trying to figure out if I should go on a gap year before I start, and that's one of the considerations...
Thanks

If you got an interview at monash u are very much likely to get interview at some other uni's because monash has high umat cutoff compared to other unis.
My Subjects:
2006 I.T Systems --> 42
2007 English --> 40
         Methods --> 41
         Spec --> 38
         Chem --> 36
         Physics --> 37
         Unimaths --> 5.5

ENTER: 97.35

Not necessarily. I think that Monash will be the most difficult uni to enter this year.
VCE 2008:
English 49                        Physics 45
Specialist Maths 47           Economics 44
Maths Mathods CAS 50     (2007) Chemistry 46

Aggregate 208.8
ENTER 99.90

Tutoring Methods, Specialist and Chemistry in 2009!
PM me if interested.

To Bec: At monash, we have contact hours ranging from 20 to 30 hours a week over 5 days, it can be difficult to organise work duing the week. That being said, a friend of mine manages to get about 5-10 hours a week of work, but she does live on campus.

To ganges: The different unis  weight criteria in their own way, therefore you might not get an offer from Monash and UAdel, but you might get one from UNSW and UNewc. Monash generally weight each criteria equally, whereas UNewc only use ENTER as a threshold, once you get over 93.8, they don't care what your ENTER is.

Monash take in about 320 student every year
