Monash Accounting vs RMIT Accounting

Just curious as to if either is more credible/better recognised or if it is perceived to be better taught at either.

I've been hearing RMIT is better, does anyone know if either is at all 'better' than the other, and would it effect employment at all??

Thanks.

i know that a few accounting firms want their people doing a cadetship, to do a commerce degree at Melbourne or accounting at RMIT, (but this could be because of location)

Hmm, i'm quite curious too.
I would rather go to RMIT if i don't get into UoM, coz of the location :P
I had always thought Monash was better tho, i've never heard anyone say RMIT is better :(

What RMIT has got in its favour is they have the 1 year of working at an accounting firm incorporated into the degree in the 3rd year. And IMO you would look more employable coming out of the degree having worked a year than just a 3 year degree at Monash or any other institution for the matter.

I can understand that opinion but I don't really consider it valid. Swinburne also has a similar program and I wouldn't expect anyone to argue that Swinburne is better based on that program that they have. My uncle owns an accounting firm in the city and in his exact words "I only employee graduates from Melbourne and Monash University". That's not to say that that would be the thoughts of all employers, just one with a nice medium sized firm.

Interesting, I wonder how other firms view different university degrees.

You doing Accountancy at RMIT?

If so, why'd you chose it over an Accounting or Commerce degree at Monash?(If you don't mind me asking)

Call up a few accounting firms and ask for their opinion

transportation issues. It consumes too much time for her to travel back and forth to Monash (that's what she said).
@Brendan, lol how can you call an accounting firm just to ask that question. "Hi lol, which uni is better for accounting?" Just seems a bit odd.

Why not? Just give it a go. Ask to speak to the hr/recruitment manager, if its a large firm.
