Monash Accounting vs RMIT Accounting

i'm stuck..
i'm choosing between doing a accounting/banking & finance double degree at caufield..
and accountancy at RMIT..

of course i would like to go to monash..it's more highly regarded..(i guess)
and i also like the campus too!..but i would have to travel further..

RMIT..the campus @@..(not as good)..and some emplyers don not prefer RMIT grads??
but i dont have to travel that far..it take me shorter to get there..
and the work experience they offer is very appealing to me..

Just ask around, maybe go to the campus, get a feel for the atmosphere, you'll be spending like 3 or more years at the university, you will need to like the atmosphere, also the location of the campus is important, you need to look at whether or not you can afford living on campus...

Honestly... in some cases, as rare as they are, they will look at experience as well as which Uni you attended..
Without going into too much detail... my mother never went to university or tafe [it wasn't that she couldn't get in because she got around 90 something back in the day when it was HSC, with only 3 years of english, in the day when there was no ESL], she just completed some short courses, and now she's Admin, HR and Planning Manager for the company she works for... and it's also possible my mother's employer is thinking of making her Co-owner/General Manager...

I live in Bulleen, on the east side, in an area where there are no trains near me
I have to catch a bus to the city (which will be packed in the mornings with people going to work and uni, plus the traffic will be SO SO bad, i'm predicting around 45 mins or more)
The bus isn't even gonna take me to flinders or something, i'll get off a parliament, it'll go to flinders, stop for a while, then go clayton.

So if you count that as 2 train rides, i'm also doing bus, train, train, bus weeeeee fun fun lol 

Where do you live? Are you willing to travel that distance everyday? What are your other choices?

Haha, I live up north (around Thomastown, Epping if that helps). My enter was below Melbourne's clearly-in for Commerce this year, but I called that hotline, and the lady said that I could possibly get in, though it depended on demand. So yeah, it's a toss up between Melbourne and Monash for me. If I get rejected from Melbourne, I'll have to travel to Monash whether I like it or not.

I don't wanna argue about which uni is better, coz i suck at arguing and i'd probably lose lol
But in terms of employment outcomes, it would differ depending on your employer. Some might perceive Monash more credible, some wouldn't look into it too much, but there is not much chance of RMIT being favoured over Monash. It *could*  play a part in their decision making, but there are MANY other aspects to look at, ie Uni marks, experience, extra-curricular activities...

Also, note that at RMIT, the accounting course is Bachelor of Business and at Monash it is a Bachelor of Commerce. And some firms *may* prefer Commerce grads over Business grads.

Looks like i changed my mind
I've decided on going to Monash and that education>convenience.
So yeah, 3 hours a day of traveling for me, until i move out weeeeeeeeee cant wait XD

The traveling isn't so bad... u get used 2 it after a while...

See... I wouldn't even do a degree if I wanted 2 get in2 management... I think exp plays a much more vital role.

Like, a couple of weeks ago I was offered the assistant manager position @ the place where I volunteer.
I politely declined tho... I really want 2 focus on my studies and not have 2 worry bout keeping a bunch of solicitors happy XD

If I do go to Monash, I'll be able to do the language I want (I was in that stationery store in the city today, and trying to read random words was pretty fun, lol).

Well, I put my first preference as Commerce at UoM, cause I thought I'd give it a go even though I'm quite unlikely to get in with my ENTER. Then second was Monash, which I'm pretty confident I have the score to get into!

So yeah, Monash here I come most likely! Wooo

I'd laugh if one of us gets into UoM and the other doesn't.

Also, somebody needs to start a 'I don't know anybody and I don't want to be alone' thread, but I suppose that can wait until after january 20 (all the people from my school that I've heard from are either going RMIT or La Trobe, so yeah).

Yeah, we'll wait until Jan 20 to make that thread because people like you and revel still don't know where you are going yet

I really wanna see how many people are going to Monash (Clayton) and how many people will be doing commerce
