summary: http://www.slate.com/id/2177637/
full study: http://faculty.chicagogsb.edu/emir.kamenica/documents/genderDifferences.pdf

Bottom Line:
1. Women put greater weight on the intelligence and the race of partner, while men respond more to physical attractiveness.
a) Women of all the races revealed a strong preference for men of their own race.
b) But men don't seem to discriminate based on race when it comes to dating. A woman's race had no effect on the men's choices.
c) Men did put significantly more weight on their assessment of a partner's beauty, when choosing, than women did.
2. Men do not value women’s intelligence or ambition when it exceeds their own.
3. Women exhibit a preference for men who grew up in affluent neighborhoods.
4. Male selectivity is invariant to group size, while female selectivity is strongly increasing in group size

it might just be me, lol

i think point 4 means guys will hit on girls despite the number of ppl around them (as in he wont need the girl to be exceptionally better looking than normal to impress others)
whereas girls are the opposite?

4. Male selectivity is invariant to group size, while female selectivity is strongly increasing in group size

"Both evolutionary theory [Symons 1979; Clark and Hatfield 1989; Buss and Schmitt 1993] and common perceptions suggest that women are more selective than men. We find, however, that the gender difference in selectivity crucially depends on group
size. In smaller sessions (fewer than fifteen partners), selectivity is virtually identical for men and women, with subjects of each
gender saying Yes to about half of their partners. In larger sessions, however, male selectivity is unchanged, while females become significantly more selective, choosing a little more than a third of their partners."
