Since when is Ruby's notorious? It's in Belgrave...
Occasionally they will draw a 'big' band to play there, if I remember correctly Karnivool made an appearance and people like Tex Perkins and Sarah Blasko have performed there.

But my brother and his band used to play there almost every week. 'Los Putas' - a now disbanded 7-piece latin-funk band

Getting a gig at Festival Hall is more of a fair effort, I don't think Ruby's should be put in the same sentence.
