No. Schools should allow kids to see why they should exercise and encourage it and so on, but they shouldn't force them into it. It's much more effective healthwise in terms of your entire lifespan if you actually enjoy exercise and understand the benefits, as opposed to only doing it because you were forced to and then immediately stopping once school ends.

lol. I suck at sport, dunno why. I played it from Yr 7 to 8, but in Year 9 and 10 -- I really couldn't be fucked. It wasn't my thing lol (f*king t-ball hit my balls in yr8 *grr* lol). I wagged or wrote fake notes (my friend was pr0 at that lol) to my PE teacher and yeah.

I would die if I had sat. sport rofl.

man I hate t-ball. Despite it not moving, and lining up perfectly before I swing, I could never hit the actual ball

I suck at bat sports - cricket, softball, baseball. I'm the guy you see that does a 360 spin and miss in attempt to hit the ball.

You were pretty good at badminton the other day, though :P

I need to find time for exercise. Full-time work doesn't really help :(

Over time I've improved at the art of hitting things :)

in primary school I was shocking at it and Tball didnt exist at high school. maybe in year 9/10 i started to get the hang of hitting objects with sticks.
You would have noticed that I can do 3-4 good ones in a row and then an absolutely random shocking one going in completely the wrong direction. I don't know how I manage that.

2x after school training (1.5 hours each) (yr 7-12)
1x Saturday sport (length obviously dependent on sport chosen :P) (yr 7-12)
3-4x PE classes a fortnight (1 hr) (yr 7-10)
Compulsory for all :)

so being forced into not getting home before 6-6:30 => can't start study until 7-7:30 => even if had no relaxing/down time/no life it is impossible to do schools recommended amount of study hours a night xD

Our school stops the whole physical education at year 10, which I think was a mistake, I mean if there was one class I looked forward to, it was PE. I mean those 2 hours every week were the highlight of the week for me, I was good at practically all sports, and given my height it was surprising I was so good at.... basketball... yes you heard me... Lol.

Anyways in conclusion to this little rant, I think it should be available if students want to participate.

at a school in New Zealand my friend went to for a semester, they did 15 mins or so of P.E before each class

I think [optimally] there should be more [than there is now] for yrs 7-10 and an optional class for yrs 11-12, for fun, as Odette intimated and because, as well as keeping fit, learning and improving at a sport/activity which combines physical and mental skills, can be very edifying and help with any other type of learning. I'd say the same for Drama.
Of course, the teachers should be aware that some students might find particular activities especially difficult and/or the experience of being in a P.E/Drama class very stressful, such students shouldn't be forced into an activity which brings them largely negative outcomes.

i always play soccer with mates during recess and lunch on the basketball courts; tis fun. But we always get the ball taken off us due to basket ballers complaining and they've (teachers) threatened to suspend us all... but we still play. I like all sports other than CRICKET i hate that sport, i find it soo boring. Although i did make it to victorian finals in 100 and 200m sprinting but came third along with being apart of a soccer team who went to victorian finals also.

overall i love sports

i didn't read dekoyls original post at the start so i don't really know the full story behind this but i just felt like posting :)

EDIT: MISTAKE/GRAMMAR

EDIT: MISTAKE/GRAMMAR

in yrs 7 to term 3 of yr8, basketball was what we *always* played at break and lunch. I quite liked it, but was so happy when it changed to soccer, first 3 or 4 a side on the basketball court and then 8-10 a side on the astroturf, as more ppl saw the attraction.
I remember the first day of soccer, i was at the Alliance Francaise Comp at recess [pwning :D], then i came back at lunch and saw the teams and was like wtf???? as one of them had all the gun basketballers. but then they kicked off, instead of the jump and we played soccer ever since :smitten:

yeah, before, we'd had mostly dirt, with a few grass patches here and there
the astroturf looks schmick and has pitch markings, although it wasn't so nice to fall on
