Title: Transformation of Functions Question
Post by: BakerDad12 on July 13, 2020, 09:55:35 am
Hey, I'm struggling with 7e. on the snapshot I've posted below. The answers say 5(x-6), -8y-1. Is the x coordinate not meant to be 5x-6, no brackets because you have to apply dilations first?

I'd assume that because the order by which you must perform the translations is specified, you follow that order rather than the normal conventions (what my teacher said).

Suppose you let f(x) = x^2 with an x coordinate of 0, the transformed x coordinate would be -30 following the order that they've provided. That result is obtained with the brackets rather than without i.e. 5(0-6) = -30.

Hope that helps
