Title: The HSC Rollercoaster
Post by: emilyygeorgexx on April 16, 2018, 07:34:38 pm
Hello!

Firstly, I have no idea how long this is gonna last or how committed to this I'll end up being but I'll just give it a shot and see where it goes from here!!

So, my name is Emily and like everyone else I am a current struggling Year 12 student. However, I seem to be so keen at the idea of going to uni so that's all that's getting me through this year so far.

Some fun facts about me:
- I watch way too many tv shows (Suits hands down my favourite though)
- I got a little taste of fame this year and by that I mean, Ross Gittins retweeted me 3 times (Economics kids you know who you are)
- I have an obsession of getting my initials personalised on all my stuff like my phone case, wallet, laptop case, etc

This year I am currently studying:
- Advanced English
- General Mathematics 2
- Business Studies
- Legal Studies
- Economics
- Studies of Religion 1

As you can see, I do 'The Three' as we like to call it at my school. However, business studies is by far my favourite!

The ultimate goal is to get into my dream uni and dream course. What is that you may ask? It is Commerce/Law at UNSW.

Hopefully I actually remember to post on here! See you soon ;D

Hey, emilyygeorgexx.

Glad to have ya on board - excited to see your progress throughout Year 12! :)

That's a nice mix of subjects you're doing - how are you handling the content so far?

Ooh, what a tough double degree - are you interested in specialising in a law field? :)

Good luck with the HSC - hope it all goes well for the rest of the year!

Content is definitely a lot! However, I don't mind it though as I am very interested in all the subjects and genuinely don't know what other subjects I would have chosen.

Yes, a very hard double degree but it is the dream... I hope to specialise in corporate law or acquisitions and mergers!

Hello,

My first update since my introduction post!

It's already half way through the first week of holidays and I feel like I haven't achieved as much progress as I would have liked to. However, I am weary that this is good for me as the last 5 weeks of Term 1 were super intense for me. This break is nice but also feels weird at the same time because I feel like I should be doing something!

So far I've finished all my legal and eco notes that I needed to have completed which is good. Tomorrow, I'm going to UNSW library for the day so hopefully I'll get some business essays and SOR notes done so then hopefully I'll have the satisfaction of crossing it off my long list of stuff I need to do.

I feel like I am trying to do everything I can so I don't have to do English. It's probably my least favourite subject (along with SOR) and it just seems so tedious because I need to redo my Discovery creative as it didn't go as planned in the exam and on top of that I need to write and submit my Mod C essay before next Wednesday.

On another note, I am currently stress searching for formal dresses because ITS NEXT TERM!! I know next term is gonna be my busiest term so if I don't do it now then I never will. It's actually so exhausting clicking through all these pages to find a dress I like and yet I still have had no luck.

Anyways, thats all for now. See you soon!

Same here!! It is literally the worst trying to redo creatives - I feel like I can't cull anything because I am too invested in it.

How do you find juggling AOS and the modules? Do you tend to favour one over the other?

Omg, I am the total opposite! Creative writing is definitely my weakness so it's literally so difficult just to bring myself to sit down and open my computer yet alone trying to actually write it.

I actually really didn't like AOS, mainly because of the text we did - "The Awakening" by Kate Chopin. I just finished Module C which was the Art of Travel and like it wasn't amazing but the text is so hard to formulate an essay on so that's putting me off a bit. Now I am doing Module A which is Richard III and Looking for Richard. I watched Looking for Richard yesterday and I am so utterly confused, just can't wrap my head around it!

Ooh I just did Richard/Looking for Richard for Mod A!
It was much more enjoyable than I expected. Some of Pacino's mannerisms just cracked me up!

I pretty much felt the same way at first, but if you approach it conceptually then I'm sure 'the big picture' will click soon.  ;D

Heard you were doing Al Pacino's Looking for Richard and Richard III for Mod A. We started that at the beginning of last term and to be honest it's so much better that the AOS. I think at the start of term 1 our teacher will want to see our completed essay drafts because I started mine like three weeks ago and haven't looked at it since.

I agree that Looking for Richard is a weird film but it is easy to relate to Richard III. Good luck! Are you doing to Modules out of order? Because I think we are doing them AOS, A, B and C. But anyway. Good luck!

Yes hopefully it will make more sense when I actually get back to school and start looking at it in more depth. My teacher just set as part of our holiday homework to watch Looking for Richard and understand the basic plot of Richard III.

Yeah, we are doing the modules out of order. I have no idea why but our order goes AOS, C, A, B.

Hello everyone!

The second week of holidays has just begun and I honestly still don't know how to feel. I've almost completed all the stuff I've wanted to do except all this English work, and it is seriously just lurking around. I need to get my act together though because my Mod C essay is due on Wednesday and at this point all I've written is the introduction and 1 paragraph.

I've also been really tired lately and I have no idea why. I seem to be taking naps throughout the day and then waking up like oh. However, I did start watching Brooklyn Nine Nine like 2 days ago and I am actually obsessed. I just want to keep watching!

Anyways, tomorrow I'm going to the Business Studies and Economics workshop at UTS so I hope it's good and I'll get to learn a few things outside the syllabus.

Also, I need to start preparing myself for parent teacher interviews next week because I honestly don't know how this is going to go down at this point. I hope my rankings are okay, and at this point I think I am ranking 1st in 3/6 of my subjects which I am pretty proud of. I'm still waiting on some results to come in though!

Well, this wasn't a very long update and I'll probably come back here when school starts.

See you then!

Sleep is good! Especially in holidays .- If your body is telling you to rest then rest. Make sure you are getting good sleep at night, both in quality and quantity ;D

Helloooo!

Ah second week back and I am slowly getting back into it. I'm currently in a period of not having as much work to do as I completed lots of it in the holidays so now I can take it easy for a bit before I get hit back with all these exams. In saying that, I finally got all my marks back from my exams and I am actually very happy. However, I would have liked the legal mark to be a little higher but regardless I think all the study paid off. This is what I have achieved so far:
* English (Oral) - 100%
* General Maths - 95%
* Business Studies - 98%
* Economics - 94%
* Legal Studies - 88%
* SOR 1 - 90%

Anyways, not much to update for now! See you soon :)

Insanely good results, well done Emily, far out! ;D

Can definitely appreciate not being happy with the Legal mark - Especially since it is your only sub-90 mark (wow, you're crazy good, ahaha). Do you have a game plan for improving? :)

PS - Who the hell gets 100% in Oral? What's your secret? ;)

Ah thank you so much!! I genuinely have no idea how I got 100% in my oral, literally never in my whole schooling career have I ever received a mark like that!

I think I have a game plan for legal. My crime essay got 12/15 but I already knew coming out of the exam that my structure wasn't as cohesive as I would have liked it to be and because the question was in regard to 'offender, victims and society' I think I fell a bit short on the victims bit. My world order essay got a 22/25 which is still a pretty decent mark. My teacher said that I was just trying to corporate so many legal issues that towards the end of the essay my argument got a little bit lost. Plus the question was the 'Changing ethical standards and values' theme and challenge like pftt what a hard one for the first essay we did!!

Awesome to hear. That World Order question is bruuuutal - 22/25 there is definitely a job well done in my eyes ;D you'll easy be 90+ for Legal by Trials!

Wow, I haven't been on here in ages! So I'm just gonna give a little update on what's happening :)

This term was definitely one of the busiest terms I have experienced so far like literally so many exams in so little time! I'll give you an update on how I went:
* English - Mod A essay on Monday so still awaiting the results but hopefully its okay - omg only the biggest stuff up I made was I wrote R3 was written in 1953 instead of 1593 so hopefully they realise I just made a little mistake...

* Maths - an exam and came out with 95% pretty stoked as it is nice to keep the first place

* SOR 1 - an essay on Buddhist enviro ethics but still awaiting the results - this essay I felt I did pretty alright

* Business - an essay on operations strategies and some multiple choice still awaiting the result and hopefully will get it on monday!!

*Economics - an assignment on the budget and some multiple choice came out with 84% - tbh I was pretty disappointed with that result but its okay I know I can pull it together for the trial and get back near my half yearly mark :)

Okay I'm just gonna dedicate its own bit to this one because I am actually and genuinely cannot believe this happened. For legal we did an essay on consumers and 15 multiple choice on human rights. Today I got my exam back and actually couldn't believe it but I got 100%. Genuinely shocked!! I am so happy and wow I just don't even know what to say ;D

But yeah that's all thats really been happening in my life so far! Now my mindset is 100% shifted to the trials

Let's do something amazing!! ;D

Trials start tomorrow which means death is near approaching

This week: Paper 1, Paper 2, Legal and Maths

I am actually going to die after these english exams considering we did Module B in about 2 weeks (only 2 poems though for trials - anyone who does Eliot understands my pain considering the length of 'Prufrock')

I guess I’ll see you on the flip side :'(

Okay so I have done 3 exams so far!!

Paper 1 - eh, I think the unseen texts will let me down but the essay question fit to my related text perfectly so I was quite happy with that

Paper 2 - actually surprised, enjoyed it more than Paper 1 but I didn't enjoy my sore arm that followed it - I think I answered all 3 questions alright, made sure I changed my analysis at any time so I could to fit with the questions

Legal - very fair paper, multiple choice was pretty good, crime essay was an easy question not sure how well I executed it though - option essays were AMAZING

I had done both of the questions in my previous exams for legal so I literally just wrote the same essays out again (especially for consumers since I got 25/25 last time so hopefully I can reciprocate it!!)

Maths tomorrow, fingers crossed it's not too difficult ;D

YAAAYYY. If you don't mind me asking what courses did you apply for?

Yeah of course! This is the order I put it in:

1. Bachelor of Law/Bachelor of Commerce - UNSW
2. Bachelor of Commerce - UNSW
3. Bachelor of Law/Bachelor of Business - UTS
4. Bachelor of Business - UTS
5. Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Education (Secondary) - UNSW

I am still contemplating my 5th preference so it might end up changing depending on how I feel during the rest of the year, but the top 4 are all definitely keepers!

Also good luck with your exams this week, you'll smash it!!!

Spent about 75% of today crying lmao - literally just got triggered by everything relating to these trial exams

I just really couldn't fathom the thought of me failing my business trial yesterday or sitting the economics trial on Monday

Anyways, I've got one trial left on Monday which is economics. I'm honestly just going to accept my fate because I feel like its just not looking good for me right now. Having to relearn the whole syllabus in 5 days is definitely not fun

Aww, I hope you get everything done in time! And I'm SURE you did great in business, I recall you helping me out with Finance once! But okay same @ crying, I just finished my General maths trial which was worth 40% and I couldn't even answer so many questions and I'm sure I failed so I'm depressed AHAHSAHA. legit can't believe general went from my best subject to me not being able to understand half the paper (AND IT WAS WORTH SO MUCH TOO UGHFHSF).

Helloooo

I've gotten two trials back and it has been relatively okay!
* General Maths - 90
* Legal - 96

TBH, was lowkey disappointed with maths because I was on a consistent 95 for the whole year but I am just going to blame it on the fact that that it was my 4th exam in a row following 2 English exams and Legal. It's still a Band 6 so I am going to take it! I am absolutely stoked with legal. I never thought I would get a mark like that and it was such a big jump from my half yearly mark of 88.

I am getting Economics back tomorrow and Business back on Wednesday so fingers crossed I did okay!!

Hey!

What a last 6 weeks it has been! Honestly, it probably was one of the most intense periods of my whole schooling life, but I guess it was pretty worth it in the end. I finally received the last of my trial results today, so this is summary of what I got:

* English - 88
* Maths - 90
* Business - 93
* Legal - 96
* Economics - 95
* SOR 1 - 96

I am honestly quite ecstatic with what I managed to achieve and despite English being below 90, I was so happy since I am only really aiming for an 85 so I definitely surpassed my own expectations!

Hope everyone else did well ;D

Hey everyone!!

Been a while since I have done a proper update but here's a very quick one. I've got the LAT tomorrow which is quite scary but hopefully it will be alright, you can't study intensely for it so I have only made some minor attempt. I also graduate on Wednesday like what??? I still can't really fathom this thought in addition to the HSC being so close!! My final ranks came out last week and I am so happy!! They look like this:
* English Adv - 7/34
* Maths Gen - 1/85
* Business - 1/38
* Legal - 1/32
* Eco - 1/13
* SOR 1 - 2/74

Best of luck to everyone in the coming weeks and the HSC!

2 years of stress and tears, and now I have nothing left in me. Time to finally rest!!!
