Title: Good movies?
Post by: pi on November 19, 2011, 03:29:07 pm
Any new recommendations AN?

I don't mind if they are even a few months old, I haven't watched a movie in ages :(

Right now I hear that new Justin Timberlake movie, "In Time" is good. I've yet to watch it (due to exam revision) but it's definitely on my list.

If you haven't seen it yet, "HP 7 (parts 1 and 2)" It was like the end of my childhood. I was so close to tears.

+1 for HP7. It made me sad to see the end, and my father had to put up with my sobbing enthusiasm for it.

I've been meaning to watch Super 8 for awhile now: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_8_(film)
It sounds pretty interesting.

On the topic of Spielberg, the Tin Tin movie comes out late next month sometime.

Dudes. The Usual Suspects, get on that shiet.
One of my favourite movies.

OH AND YOU'RE NOT A SEXY GUY (or girl) UNLESS YOU'VE WATCHED THE GODFATHER.

Edit: Don't watch Godfather III, it sucked.

Yep, The Usual Suspects mad movie!
I had a list somewhere of good movies.... Here:
Bourne Trilogy
Transformers
Shooter
Inglorious Basterds
Invictus
Inception
All the Pirates of the Carribean
Chaos
Crank 1&2
21
Source Code
Kick Ass
Unleashed
Se7en
Wall Street Money Never Sleeps
2012 (pretty epic)
Fight Club
The Fighter

Some of them arent great but i still liked them :P Also depends on what movies you like, i enjoy comedies but i'd rather a solid action/thriller movie! Horror movies are usually just dumb lol

Limitless was probably my favourite movie this year, I recommend it.

Also, if you're willing to wait 13 months, I'm sure The Hobbit will be fantastic :)

Since we're talking about old films as well, I'm going to assume you have seen this movie, but if you haven't, you need to watch it immediately: Forrest Gump.

I'm not sure if we're turning this thread into a best movies of all-time thread, so I'll refrain from listing others.

Also, if you're willing to wait 13 months, I'm sure The Hobbit will be fantastic :)
+1

Bourne Trilogy

Seconded. Love Matt Damon

I've wanted to watch all the Ocean's movies for ages- they should be good
If you want action movies watch the Bond movies- cant get past them.
I also liked Killers and Knight and Day- Buts that just me and my fixation with Romantic Action movies. And speaking of Knight and Day, Tom Cruise is amazing, so Mission Impossible (whatever number we're up to) should be good.

If you want chick flicks I can give you names, but somehow I doubt you'd want them :)
Yesterday I watched What's your number, Coyote Ugly and New In Town and today I watched Ghosts of Girlfriends Past LOL

Inception is amazing if you can follow it properly.

If you want something that will leave you in stitches watch 'Money Talks' absolutely one of the funniest movie I've watched in my life.
Charlie Sheen and Chris Tucker are in it.

One of my best friends has NEVER seen any of the LOTR or Star Wars movies, so I'm forcing her to watch them all sometime over the holidays. Also, my other best friend has never seen The Lion King. It's so sad.

I need to see inception and there was a movie based on the Zimbardo prison stimulation, can't remember the name. Also limitless, breaking dawn (conversation starter with the ladies), and a few others that are currently at the back of my head.

Ok then. No biggie, I just wanted to know what house I'd be in. and just, you know, live out my childhood dream. I wanted to be an auror when I was eight, not a boring real-world professional.

Auror? Yeah kind of cool. I want to be a teacher there. Never leave Hogwarts.

PS: I was sorted into Gryffindor, which was sweet.

Ps. Sorry everyone else for derailing the thread. On topic, the original transformers Movie (animated from the 80s) is really good.

breaking dawn (conversation starter with the ladies)
LOL at watching breaking dawn to get girls, will only get you in the friends category at best.

Yeah at best. If ANYONE started talking about Twilight with me, male or female, I would walk away. And I would say something very undignified to them as well.

Harry Potter, always! The end of DHP2 was so sad. It was like the end of our childhoods. Some tumblrarians had this going on where at the end of the movie you were supposed to get out your wand and say lumos maxima at the end. I came prepared with wands for my friends (sticks from my backyard, I know Ollivander would be horrified). I forgot to do it though LOL

Breaking Dawn promises to be hilarious though, since the 4th book is the one where she accepts she can't write and just goes crazy with the story.

Rewatch lord of the rings, I'm doing that after exams.

From my working at Video Ezy for 2 years and spending each shift having people repeatedly ask me for these movies over and over and over and over and over: ....

Comedy:
White Chicks
10 Things I Hate About You
500 Days of Summer
Zoolander
The Hangover
Rush Hour
Stepbrothers
Mean Girls
Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy, The Waterboy (pretty much anything with Adam Sandler in it)
Dude Where's my Car (NOTE: hilarity of this movie is highly subjective)
Death at a Funeral (British version)

Drama:
The Shawshank Redemption
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
Slumdog Millionaire
The Hurt Locker
Chinatown
An Education
On the Waterfront
Precious

Action/Thriller:
Inception
The Dark Knight
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1 and Part 2)
The Matrix
Public Enemies (Johnny Depp)
Bourne Identity (+ sequels)
Kick Ass
Sherlock Holmes
Inglorious Bastards
Pirates of the Carribean
James Bond (most are pretty good at face value - but avoid Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby at all costs: my favourite bond movie is probably Live and Let Die)

Romance (most sad):
Atonement
The Notebook
Moulin Rogue
Pride and Prejudice
To Catch a Thief (Grace Kelly)
The Holiday
Funny Face/Roman Holiday (Audrey Hepburn)

Historical:
The Other Boleyn Girl
The Young Victoria
The Duchess
Mississippi Burning
Schindler's List
The Killing Fields
Life is Beautiful

Kid movies that make you miss your childhood:
Home Alone 1 and 2 (anything later than this = horrendous)
Harry Potter
Shrek (1)
The Princess Bride
How to Train your Dragon
Fantastic Mr Fox
Matilda
DISNEY MOVIES!! (Because seriously no-one is too old)
Notable mentions: Mulan, Pocahontas, The Lion King, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Finding Nemo, Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story 3, 101 Dalmations, Up, The Princess and the Frog, Aladdin, Tangled

And if only this movie was real I would die a very happy death:

I think this was mentioned before but the title was not given; I'm sure every one of you will love 'The Beautiful Mind' with Russel Crowe. 'Gladiator' too is an epic movie. Along with Braveheart and Troy. Black Hawk Down is an awesome movie, as well as Green Zone and Three Kings. All war-action. Then there's 'The Devil's Double', following the theme of the gulf war from Iraqi perspective.

For some reason, Titanic entertains me every time too.

Will go with some less common movies
-A Clockwork Orange
-V for Vendetta
-Pulp Fiction
-Amelie
-Manon de Sources (french)
-A simple plan
-Requiem for a Dream
-Cinema Paradiso (italian)
-Rashomon
-Life of Brian
-The Wrestler

Amelie is like the most famous french film  :D, not too uncommon.

Shutter Island
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

Empire Records
Donnie Darko
Trainspotting
Pulp Fiction
Fight Club
No Country For Old Men
Inglourious Basterds
A Clockwork Orange
Rushmore
V for Vendetta
The Life Aquatic
The Squid and the Whale
The Darjeeling Limited
Little Miss Sunshine
Garden State
The Royal Tenenbaums
Casablanca
500 Days Of Summer
Layer Cake
Baseketball
Lars and the Real Girl
Pans Labyrinth
The Truman Show
Reservoir Dogs
Everyone should watch the titles in bold, if you like The Royal Tenenbaums as well as The Life Aquatic then watch The Darjeeling Limited. 500 days of summer for those that like romance... Pan's Labyrinth is simply crazy.

Considering two people in this thread dislike Pulp Fiction, I don't know whether those recommendations mean anything.

Inception is an awesome movie, the paradoxes, time elapses, and going deep into dreams.

the Christian Nolan, the actors; Leanardo Di Caprio, Ellen Paige, and Jordon-Gordon Lewitt were truly amazing.

Dream, dream in that dream, dream dream in that dream. If you guys know what i mean.

You guys should seriously watch movie, you won't be disappointed.

I saw Sucker Punch the other day and i've gotta say it was a bit of a let down. Attempted mind fuck with the whole inception idea but didnt work well...

That was the movie with the steampunk dressed ladies and the plot that was completely random?

Anything involving Hayao Miyazaki.

One movie he directed, Spirited Away, is ranked 45 on the top rated movies of all time according to imdb.com.

SHERLOCK HOLMES 2... i have to say that number 1 was better than 2. maybe it was the cinema i was at, but i didn't understand most of the words the men were saying...they all had DEEP voices! lol..because of that, i kinda lost the plot a little. almost every second scene was a fight scene too... :P but i loved the ending!

I'm the other way around, but I loved them both :) I can see connections with the books too (esp. ending), so thats always great :)

I saw Sherlock 2 last night. Was let-down if you compared it to the first one, which I enjoyed a lot. I swear half the movie was in slow motion.  Talk about beating a dead horse in half time. Also, suffers from the Michael Bay condition

if you're into literature or art in the 1920s (ernest hemingway, ts eliot etc.) or anything french, then i recommend 'midnight in paris' directed by woody allen.

oh, and owen wilson's in it. :)
