Title: Rank your favourite units from uni!
Post by: Joseph41 on October 20, 2017, 11:55:58 am
To go straight to posts from 2021, click here.

We did this in the Monash thread a couple of years ago, but I thought it'd be pretty interesting for current and prospective students!

Basically, the idea is just to list all of the units you've completed at uni in order from favourite to least favourite. You can provide justification or a quick summary of each if you like! :D

Admittedly some can be hard to rank, but I'll start us off:

- ATS4230 Arts Honours Thesis (2016)
- ATS3673 History and Sociolinguistics of English (2015)
- ATS3681 Structure of English (2014)
- AMU1311 Sex, Gender and Knowledge (2015)
- ATS1338 The Language Game: Why Do We Talk the Way We Do? (2013)
- ATS2683 The Analysis of Discourse: Texts, Narrative and Society (2015)
- ATS3679 Psycholinguistics and Child Language Acquisition (2014)
- ATS2676 Sociolinguistics (2014)
- ATS3872 Topics in Indian Philosophy (2014)
- ATS2667 Language Across Time (2014)
- ATS1371 Life, Death and Morality (Introduction to Philosophy A) (2014)
- ATS4137 Special Reading Unit 1 (Honours) (2016)

Not a fan of Human Rights Theory?!

I knew you'd comment on that. 😂

Nah, still enjoyed it - the only units I genuinely didn't enjoy were PSY1011 and PSY1022. I just preferred the Linguistics units slightly more. ;)

Hold on to your hats people, because this is an incredibly long list:

1. PTY1011 - Physiotherapy 1
Whilst there are aspects of PTY1022 that I preferred (i.e. physiology), I enjoyed the lower limb more than upper limb, and found it easier. The two units were also taught slightly differently to each other and I think I preferred a lot of the way that 1011 was delivered compared to 1022.

2. PTY1022 - Physiotherapy 2

25602   Ethics in Finance
24108   Marketing Foundations
21129   Managing People and Organisations
26134   Business Statistics

(Mix and match the rest of my other technical units)

I got roasted* earlier tonight for saying that my least favourite units were what they were, but here's my list:

PSC1042: Multi-Disciplinary Pharmaceutical Science. Whipped cream and food. Enough said.
PSC1012: Physiology I
PSC1031: Physical Chemistry I
PSC1041: Scientific Inquiry
PSC1032: Physical Chemistry II
PSC1012: Physiology II
PSC1021: Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry I
PSC1022: Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry II. I really didn't like this unit, and it was more of a mess than I was this semester haha :P

*I chose to go along to a UoM trivia night, and bumped into zsteve and I mentioned that I hated organic chemistry, he nearly freaked q:

I'll update this thread peridocially, when I complete more course in my 4 year program. Also for every year you go up, the courses become more and more of a shitshow.... hmmm

GEOM2083: Applied Geospatial Techniques. I made many mistakes, but still enjoyed learning about how important Surveying, GIS and Cartography is to creating a project.
GEOM2077: Cartography 1. If you know me well enough, this is a given
GEOM1033: Spatial Information Science Fundamentals
GEOM2088: Surveying 1
GEOM1022: Physical Geography
MATH2211: Mathematics for Scientists
PHYS1080: Introduction to Physical Modelling. Course had its issues, but I can give it some credit for the learning aspect.
ONPS2338: Scientific Communication. sigh... I also do a version 2.0 of this in 4th year called Professional Practice. sigh..

Goodness. I have two degrees so this will be interesting:

Highest in list = loved, lowest in list = not-so-loved (clean version.. it's for the best)

IT degree from La Trobe (search codes):
- CSE1OOF Object Oriented Programming Fundamentals - my highest score ever (95). has a special place in my heart
- CSE3OAD Object Oriented Application Development - did this 3rd year sub as a 2nd year with MJRomeo81
- CSE1PE Programming Environment - ended up tutoring this, my first real programming unit at uni
- STA1DCT Data based Critical Thinking - grouse lecturer, changed my attitude towards mathstats completely
- CSE3BDC Big data management on the cloud
- CSE4DMI Data mining - did this as an undergrad for a challenge
- CSE1IOO Intermediate object oriented programming
- STA2ABS Applied biostatistics - something different, mix-and-match programming/stats in R
- CSE2DBF Database fundamentals

- MGT1FOM Foundations of management - same as above
- CSE2ISD Info Systems Development - zzzz

Master of Teaching from Monash (search codes):
- EDF5941/5942/5943/5944 Placements A-D (4 x 15 days = 60 overall). by far the most valuable + rewarding part
- EDF5145/5146: ICT Education Secondary - loved the IT method units. Mike & Michael are great
- EDF5810 VCAL and VET (Applied Learning) masters level double-credit - learnt a ton of valuable stuff here
- EDF5016 Inclusive teaching - special and inclusive ed. rewarding
- EDF5161/5162 Maths Education Secondary
- EDF5017 Numeracy
- EDF5019 Teacher as leader
- EDF5018 Curriculum assessment and reporting
- EDF5041 Engaging adolescent learners
- EDF4120 Learning at heart of teaching
- EDF4121 Teaching the power to change
- EDF5040 Navigating youth transitions: Learning, work, and identity
- EDF4122 Teaching partnerships - didn't like this unit one bit personally
- EDF4123 Literacy across the years - yeah. not my cup of tea

Jeez, that was hard work. I sat here for a good 15 mins debating the order

I'll take a shot **procrastinating**. Never really stepped back and looked at the units I've liked, surprisingly.

PHS2350 - Introductory Physics Research Project - This unit has definitely been the best I've taken so far. It was hard and you sink a lot of time into it, but it was fun and worth it.
MTH3020 - Complex Analysis - Probably the most fun and interesting kind of math I've come across so far
MTH3060 - Advanced Ordinary Differential Equations
PHS2061 - Quantum and Thermal Physics
MTH1030 - Techniques for Modelling - cos burkard
MTH2030 - Differential Equations with Modelling
PHS2062 - Electromagnetism and Optics - you finally start skimming the surface of some really cool physics, and you actually use some real math.
PHS2081 - Atomic, Nuclear and Condensed Matter Physics
ASP2011 - Astronomy
MTH2121 - Algebra and Number Theory
MTH2010 - Multivariable Calculus - Really dry but easy
MTH2021 - Linear Algebra with Applications - Really dry but hard
PHS1022 - Fields and Quantum Physics
PHS1011 - Classical Physics and Relativity - first year physics is trash
FIT1045 - Introduction to Algorithms and Programming
SCI2015 - Scientific practice and communication (advanced)  ........

Turns out that so far I have enjoyed the math I've done more than the physics.

1. BMS1062 - Molecular Biology: Content is relatively boring but the unit is extremely well run with great staff.
2. BMS1011 - Biomedical Chemistry: Content is light so can be boring but again a well run unit.
3.BMS1052 - Human Neurobiology: Unit with the most potential in terms of content but the overload of content meant you couldn't really "enjoy" it.
4. BMS1021 - Cells, Tissues and Organisms: Nice unit if you did VCE biology a lot of topics but heaps of connections..
5. CHM1011 - Chemistry I: Well run unit and very light.
6. MTH2010 - Multivariable Calculus: Didn't go/watch to lectures (heard they were horrible) but tutorials/my tutor were great.
7. BMS1042 - Public Health and Preventitive Medicine: Two parts epidemiology and statistics. Epi was pretty interesting and towards the end of the semester I really enjoyed it but statistics was pretty useless.
8. MTH1030 - Techniques for modelling: Relatively low on my list since I didn't go/watch to lectures (burkard probably would've increased my enjoyment)
9. CHM1022 - Chemistry II: Can't say much since I did this in the 2nd half of year 12 and kinda bludged it.
10. BMS1031 - Medical Biophysics: Very disjointed unit and badly run praticals.

A few things haha!
1 I hate drawing (and remembering) reactions and their mechanisms (which is usually asked in each assessment and I usually end up mucking it up anyways)
2. I've heard things about this current unit's exam and it just adds more pressure than needed when it comes to studying :D

What's the go with the six different units?
Because USyd changed their curriculums this year, all Bachelor of Arts, Science and Commerce students have to take 12 units of OLE (open learning environment) units during the course. There are 0cp, 2cp and 6cp units, and I chose to take 3 2cp units this semester instead of a 2nd elective.

Last year:
List as of now:
PSC1042: Multi-Disciplinary Pharmaceutical Science.
PSC2041: Biopharmaceutics
PSC1012: Physiology I
PSC1031: Physical Chemistry I
PSC2011: Biochemical pharmacology
PSC1041: Scientific Inquiry
PSC1032: Physical Chemistry II
PSC1012: Physiology II and PSC2031: Analytical Methods are tied
PSC1021: Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry I
PSC1022: Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry II
PSC2021: Structural Organic Chemistry

Organic is truly the devil and I just really hate this sem's unit, more than anything else in the world ^_^
(Note the trend- all three last ranked are organic :') )
Now:
Most favourite:
Literally every unit Monash offers bar PSC2232. (See below)
PSC2041: Biopharmaceutics (My opinion changed after a v nice exam aha)
PSC2142: Computational Chemistry (This unit makes me cry because of the labs, but it's also my first taste of stats/maths since PSC1041/year 12 and I just really enjoy this unit.) and PSC2222: Formulation Chemistry (It's tough, but I really love it. +1 for the Ruby couverture choc given to us by the UC because he's a chocaholic <3 ) (Tied)
PSC1042: Multi-Disciplinary Pharmaceutical Science
PSC1012: Physiology I
PSC1031: Physical Chemistry I
PSC2011: Biochemical pharmacology
PSC1041: Scientific Inquiry
PSC1032: Physical Chemistry II
PSC1012: Physiology II and PSC2031: Analytical Methods (tied)
PSC1021: Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry I
PSC2012: Molecular Pharmacology (Mainly because I dislike the sole UC/lecturer- he's a bit of an ass, to put it nicely)
PSC1022: Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry II
PSC2021: Structural Organic Chemistry
Hell
Second Hell
Third Hell
Finally: PSC2232- Colloid Chemistry.
You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. This unit had potential, but then I have no content whatsoever, the pracs are a shambles, and I have quizzes that are based on the content I don't even have. Therefore ???  (Not an organic unit, I promise aha :') )

MATH3871 Bayesian Inference and Computation (The stats in this course is just goals - it put MATH2901 to shame)
MATH3411 Information, Codes and Ciphers
MATH5505 Combinatorics (I still maintain that it was a mind fuck but it's still rather beautiful maths)
MATH3611 Higher Analysis (Made its way higher up because I see it get used in Bayesian, even if it's really barely used)
COMP1521 Computing Systems Fundamentals (There's a lot that I don't like about it still, but I've been REALLY pleasantly pleased with what I did like)
MATH2901 Higher Theory of Statistics
MATH1081 Discrete Mathematics
MATH2111 Higher Several Variable Calculus (I still maintain that the course was taught shit in my year but it's since improved and also the content has become far more relevant)
MATH2601 Higher Linear Algebra
MATH1151 Mathematics for AS&F 1A
MATH1251 Mathematics for AS&F 1B
COMP2521 Data Structures and Algorithms
ECON1101 Microeconomics 1 (I maintain that this was one of the best and easiest courses I've ever done but its relevance has dropped)
FINS1613 Business Finance
MATH2701 Abstract Algebra and Fundamental Analysis
MATH2621 Higher Complex Analysis (tbh very fun, but somewhat irrelevant to the stuff I'm currently doing)
MATH3701 Higher Topology and Differential Geometry (...it's really not taught well. It's just not in the shit category like MATH2111 used to be)
COMP1511 Introduction to Programming
ACCT1501 Accounting and Financial Management 1A
MATH2931 Higher Linear Models (I still suck at it and think it's very boring but it's gained some relevance)
ACTL1101 Introduction to Actuarial Studies
ACCT1511 Accounting and Financial Management 1B
ACTL2111 Financial Maths for Actuaries
SCIF1121 ...

Yeah, I was actually pretty happy with most of my courses this sem. Three made it pretty far up

(Edit: Sure lol)

Ordering the units I've done wasn't particularly easy; as I must admit I haven't really had strong feelings about the majority of them. However, with the way I'm feeling today, the order might look something like this:

MTH1030 - Techniques for modelling  (teaching was super engaging for this unit, thanks Burkard)
FIT1045 - Introduction to algorithms and python
MTH2010 - Multivariable calculus
FIT1008 - Intro to computer science
CHM1051 - Chemistry I (first year chemistry units have been a bit dry tbh)
CHM1052 - Chemistry II
SCI2015 - Scientific practice and communication (writing a 3000 word literature review will be the end of me I fear)

***daylight***

PHS1011 - Classical physics and relativity (this unit was run so poorly that I couldn't stomach doing another physics unit this semester)

Thought it be appropriate to list down ALL my first year units into one list now that I'm done with uni for the year!

* SCRN1027: Story 1 (Screenwriting) (love love love love my tutor for Story! The best tutor I've had at uni so far. The tasks are very engaging and challenging as well)
* SCRN1030: Character & Performance 1 (Directing) (I didn't like directing at first but my tutor for this subject was super engaging as well and was so nice. She drew me towards directing because she approached it from an actor's perspective which was interesting)
* SCRN1033: Short Form Production (I have learnt so much in this subject more than all my subjects combined honestly. The stress was worth it!)
* SCRN1028: Image 1 (Cinematography)
* SCRN1031: Rhythm & Juxtaposition 1 (Editing) (lowkey expected more in this subject honestly)
* SCRN1029: Visual Storytelling
* SCRN1026: Screen Business 1 (Producing)
* Screen Studies
* Seminars
* SCRN1032: Sound 1 (Sound) (I just couldn't engage with the subject at all because it got too technical with frequency waves and whatnot)

Monash University

1. BMS2031 - Body Systems
2. BMS2011 - Structure of the Human Body
3. BMS2042 - Human Genetics
4. BMS1062 - Molecular Biology
5. BMS1011 - Biomedical Chemistry
6. BMS1052 - Human Neurobiology
7. BMS1021 - Cells, Tissues and Organisms
8. CHM1011 - Chemistry I
9. MTH2010 - Multivariable Calculus
10. BMS2021 - Human Molecular Cell Biology
11. BMS2052 - Microbes in health and disease
12. BMS1042 - Public Health and Preventitive Medicine
13. MTH1030 - Techniques for modelling
14. CHM1022 - Chemistry II
15. BMS1031 - Medical Biophysics
16. BMS2062 - Introduction to bioinformatics

I probably should add that i've liked all my subjects so even the stuff towards the bottom have been good. As for the new additions, BMS2042 is one of the best untis i've done - really well run and lectures are really interesting. BMS2052 - I went in not really liking or being interested in microbiology from what I had done in first year but this subject changed my perspective and it became very valuable for me. BMS2062 is ranked last but will still a decent unit apart from the assessment having really bad weightings. For 10 out of the 12 weeks we needed to submit "practical reports" which was really just answering questions but they take a lot of time to do (especially if you are trying to perfect them) and only worth 1.8% each. Also those pracs where 3 hours for work we could've just done at home  :o. Just a lot of minor assessments which was pretty annoying.

Subjects in bold are ones I'm doing this semester!

ARTS1510: Introductory German A
ARTS1511: Introductory German B
MDIA1003: PR & Advertising Foundations
ARTS1091: Media, Society, Politics
INST1006: The World in Transition
INST1005: Key Debates in International Studies
MDIA1002: Media and Communication Contexts
ARTS1090: Media, Culture & Everyday Life

This semester is a heck ton better than last semester. I'm a lot more interested in the subjects I'm doing now :-)

As Week 7 of Term 1 has started it’s time to update! The ones in bold are the ones I’m doing this term:

ARTS2510: Intermediate German A
ARTS1510: Introductory German A
ARTS1511: Introductory German B
MDIA1003: PR & Advertising Foundations
ARTS1091: Media, Society, Politics
INST1006: The World in Transition
INST1005: Key Debates in International Studies
MDIA1002: Media and Communication Contexts
ARTS1090: Media, Culture & Everyday Life
MDIA2005: Advertising
INST2003: Research Methods in International Studies

This term has been a mad let down from the get go 😅 I don’t really have an interest in advertising or research and am doing those courses because they’re compulsory. Praying my WAM isn’t too bad this term because I have to apply for exchange in Term 3 but things are not looking good lol. Hopefully it’ll be better next term!

Cognitive Psych sounds cool. What type of stuff are you looking at?
Forgot to respond to this but the main overarching concepts we looked at where attention, memory and language I should probably write some reviews

Glad this was bumped, remembered I initially held off posting until I was in my final year. Will probably post again next semester. Looks weird having a lot of my major units for Psychology sit near the bottom, but I think it's more reflective of most of my minor/elective units being way better rather than Psychology being bad.

ATS2866 - Symbolic logic (this unit is incredible, the new UC introduced a whole new course and it's soooo good)
ATS2173 - Korean intermediate 1
ATS1172 - Korean introductory 2
ATS1171 - Korean introductory 1
PSY3320 - Sleep and circadian rhythms (readings and exam were brutal but still up there as the best Psych unit honestly)
ATS2946 - Critical thinking: How to analyse arguments and improve your reasoning skills
ATS1835 - Time, self and mind
ATS1371 - Life, death and morality
ATS3089 - Social institutions and power in Asia
ATS1338 - The language game: Why do we talk the way we do? (old name)
PSY2071 - Developmental psychology
PSY2042 - Personality and social psychology
PSY3041 - Psychological testing, theories of ability and ethics
ATS2720 - Youth, culture and social change
(this will probably go up once the other assignments come around)
PSY1011 - Psychology 1A
PSY1022 - Psychology 1B
PSY3051 - Perception and cognitive psychology
PSY2061 - Biological psychology
EDF1303 - Understanding learning and learners (old name)
EDF1304 - Understanding teaching for learning (old name)

Looks like it was introduced in 2013, but when I took it last year it came under new management; weirdly, it isn't running this year. Shame, it was a pretty engaging unit for my first taste of that area of study and most people seemed to like it too.

Alright time to update this, couple of changes from last year as well. Bold are the units I'm doing this semester.

BFC1001: Foundations of Finance
ACC1100: Introduction to Financial Accounting
BTC1110: Commercial Law
ETC3410: Applied Econometrics
FIT1051: Programming fundamentals in Java
ETC2420: Statistical Thinking
ETC3460: Financial Econometrics
ETC2410: Introductory econometrics
ECC1000: Principles of microeconomics
BFC3241: Equities and investment analysis
BFC2751: Derivatives 1
MGC1010: Introduction to management
ETC1000: Business and economic statistics
BFC2140: Corporate Finance 1
ETC2430: Actuarial Statistics
ECC1100: Principles of macroeconomics
ETC2520: Probability and statistical inference for economics and business
BFC2340: Debt markets and fixed income securities
ETC2440: Mathematics for economics and business
MKC1200: Principles of marketing

Applied econometrics is top notch! Lecturer's not too lax with the theoretical content even though it's supposed to be "applied". Would highly recommend this to anyone considering research in the Faculty of Business and Economics.

This will be horrendous when I want to procrastinate by ranking all 38 (or 42 next sem) units I've done, which is why I totally haven't set a reminder to do this.

Indigenous perspectives: is important to know but the way it's taught is really boring. The lectures are from 6-8 on Monday nights and they repeat the same points sometimes each week. It's a 1st year course but it's also a high fail rate course (which they keep reminding us about which is a bit stressful).

M&S4: This ones the last theory unit and I haven't really enjoyed most of them. I like this one more than the ones last year, but this focusses on jazz theory and I haven't really played or listen to a lot of jazz music.

Performance Lab: I don't really enjoy my lecturer for this (which is annoying because I've had her since sem 2 last year) and I feel like most of the classes aren't structured well. The classes aren't very interesting or engaging sometimes which is really disappointing.

Big yuck. Are they recorded/do you have to attend?

Compulsary attendance: I need to attend at least 80% of all music & education stuff. :(

Whats worse is I have a 5 1/2 hour break in between my morning class and the 6-8 lecture.

As part of my degree, I have to complete 24 UoC of one language so I complete the last part of that next term with Intermediate B. I wish I could do more but it just doesn't fit in my program after the compulsory 24 credits :-(

Hell
Second Hell
Third Hell
Finally: PSC2232- Colloid Chemistry.

Forgot to do this last term so eh I'll add it in.

MATH3871 Bayesian Inference and Computation
MATH3411 Information, Codes and Ciphers
MATH5505 Combinatorics
MATH3911 Statistical Inference (Moved up - now like this course a ton.)
MATH3611 Higher Analysis
COMP1521 Computing Systems Fundamentals
MATH2901 Higher Theory of Statistics
MATH3171 Linear and Discrete Optimisation (Salty over my test performance a bit, but content has been quite fun.)
MATH1081 Discrete Mathematics
MATH2621 Higher Complex Analysis (Found its way back up a bit after I enjoyed tutoring it this term.)
MATH2111 Higher Several Variable Calculus
MATH2601 Higher Linear Algebra
MATH1151 Mathematics for AS&F 1A
MATH1251 Mathematics for AS&F 1B
COMP2521 Data Structures and Algorithms
COMP2511 Object-Oriented Design & Programming (If it weren't for the stupidly long and time-pressing project, this course would be way further up on the list. The content is actually brilliant.)
ECON1101 Microeconomics 1
MATH3821 Statistical Modelling and Computing (Saved a lot by a nice lecturer, but the lectures themselves and the extra presentation were just too much.)
MATH2701 Abstract Algebra and Fundamental Analysis
COMP1511 Introduction to Programming
ACCT1501 Accounting and Financial Management 1A
MATH3701 Higher Topology and Differential Geometry
COMP3821 Extended Algorithms and Programming Techniques (The biggest letdown ever. Still not satisfied with how the course was run this term at all, even if I did decently in it.)
MATH2931 Higher Linear Models
ACTL1101 Introduction to Actuarial Studies
ACCT1511 Accounting and Financial Management 1B
COMP1531 Software Engineering Fundamentals
ACTL2111 Financial Maths for Actuaries
SCIF1121 ...

BACK AT IT AGAIN for another semester

ETC2410 Introductory econometrics

ETC3520 Foundations of quantitative finance
MTH3241 Random processes in the sciences and engineering
ETC3430 Financial mathematics under uncertainty

My units are pretty good at the moment (not factoring the teaching quality for these and all my units), wished I could've done more theoretical units on probability theory and random processes, so I might shift my focus for this and next semester towards that. But the actuarial degree is great so far!

kmn, here's me trying to rank my undergrad. Fun fact, 2 of my 4 lowest units no longer exist (:

CHM2990/3990: (Introductory) Chemistry Research Project (I did both, but the differences had nothing to do with the unit, so they can share the same spot)
MTH3241: Random Processes in the Sciences and Engineering
ETC3400: Principles of Econometrics
CHM3911: Advanced Physical Chemistry
MTH1035: Techniques for Modelling (advanced)
CHM1051: Advanced Chemistry I
CHM3922: Advanced Organic Chemistry
CHM3941: Advanced Inorganic Chemistry (fun fact: I prefer inorganic, just found the teaching in the above better)
MTH2232: Mathematical Statistics
MTH2222: Mathematics of Uncertainty (fun fact: the entirety of this unit was covered in the first 4 weeks of MTH2232, made this one a breeze)
MTH2025: Linear Algebra (advanced)
CHM1052: Advanced Chemistry II
CHM2911: Synthetic Chemistry
CHM3180: Materials Chemistry
MTH2032: Differential Equations with Modelling
CHM2922: Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy
MTH2010: Multivariate Calculus
CHM3930: Medicinal Chemistry
PHS1080: Foundation Physics
CHM3952: Advanced Analytical Chemistry
ESC1011: Planet Earth: Our Place in the Universe (first year geology, not even close to the astronomy unit it sounds like)
SCI2015: Scientific Practice and Communication (advanced)

Semester 1 update (even though my units* are full year this year)

Most favourite:
Literally every unit Monash offers bar PSC2232. (See below)
PSC4212: Research in Formulation Science (So far I swear I've learnt more in the lab doing stuff than in ANY other unit I have)
PSC2041: Biopharmaceutics
PSC3142: Computational Drug Design
PSC2142: Computational Chemistry and PSC2222: Formulation Chemistry (Tied)
PSC3221: Biomolecule Formulation and Modified Release Technologies
PSC1042: Multi-Disciplinary Pharmaceutical Science
PSC1012: Physiology I
PSC1031: Physical Chemistry I
PSC2011: Biochemical pharmacology
PSC3232: Professional Placement
PSC3231: Pharmaceutical Product Manufacture
PSC3041: Applied Analytical Methods
PSC1041: Scientific Inquiry
PSC1032: Physical Chemistry II
PSC3211: Industrial Formulation
PSC1012: Physiology II and PSC2031: Analytical Methods (tied)
PSC3222: Nanotechnology and Modified Release Technologies (Angus let us down on this one- it was a shambles :( )
PSC1021: Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry I
PSC3212: Pharmaceutical Commercialisation. The fluffy snake brought me so much pain. :(
PSC2012: Molecular Pharmacology
PSC1022: Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry II
PSC2021: Structural Organic Chemistry
Hell
Second Hell
Third Hell
Finally: PSC2232- Colloid Chemistry.
You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

*PSC4211: Advanced Formulation Science. I have not yet had a single piece of marked coursework, so I really cannot rank this one yet. Maybe ask me after my first bit of coursework in ... July?

It would've been cool if we actually did anything related to it in the unit! 😅 Instead, we got a series of pracs we all failed for not following the instructions (we did) and got essentially told that our reports we had to write on (non-existent) unit content were infactual even though we combed through every relevant resource in the library to write it up because we had no lectures to base our reports on.

Tldr: It was just a mess

I hated BIOL10003. Genetics part was okay, but the environment part was just terrible imo.

Best of luck for paper 2. I heard paper 1 was quite hard (as is the case every year), so I know that 'crushing' feeling of MCB. Feel free to message me if you would like some insight into your future biomed studies :)

*I still haven't sat my PSYC10003 exam but I reckon it should be a good time *
1. BLAW10001 Principles of Business Law
Tanya is a great lecturer! Funny and engaging. The content is easy to digest, and the exam easy. It is indeed a true easy H1!
2. PSYC10003 Mind, Brain & Behaviour 1
Chris is an amazing coordinator, the overall content is interesting and easy to understand
3. MUSI20150 Music & Health

5. MAST10011 Experimental Design & Data Analysis
6. MUSI20149 Music Psychology
7. BIOL10002 Biomolecules and cells
8. BIOM20001 Molecular and Cellular Biomedicine
Paper B saved the subject tbh and great co-ordinators (despite them changing the marks and structure of paper B 2 days b4 the exam  :P)
9. MAST10016 Mathematics for Biomedicine
Practice exam was so much harder than actual exam :(
10. PHYC10007 Physics for Biomedicine
plug: read my review

Also, I should note that I liked all my subjects. Obviously some more than others but I found all of them to be valuable.
It is only 22 subjects listed since I did 2 "double subjects" as noted by "12 points".
So this list is the equivalent of 24 units (144 credit points).

What made MTH2132 stand out from the rest?
It is quite different to most of the subjects I did. It was kind of a unique unit in which the lecturer, chief examiner, unit coordinator were all the same person so they had a lot of control on what they wanted to teach. I think one of the most important things for a unit to be is well organised and well run and this definitely was.

I believe it isn't a core unit for anyone so everyone chooses it as an elective so it allows for a lot more creativity for the lecturer. They are also extremely passionate about what they were teaching and they always put in a heap of effort in lectures. You could really tell there was a heap of time put into making the animations for the slides. They also brought in a heap of tools for demonstrations. For instance; magic tricks, juggling, bubbles and of course all of it related to the content taught.

In addition to this, the content was unlike most other maths units in which there were a fair bit of practical/conceptual questions along with some mathematical history (not really tested on this but gave great context). It isn't one of those units where you can just learn some formulas or techniques and be fine - you really do need to understand the content and be able to "think outside the box". There are also other interesting stuff like higher dimensions taught. It also highlighted a lot of mathematics within the real world where some people may have not considered before e.g. in design, juggling, movies/tv-shows etc

Hmm, if it helps you can still do the standard physics 2 subject (PST/PHYC10004) after passing Physics 1 Advanced, and then go on to do second year physics. I guess the lab/WileyPlus/organisation aspect will be pretty much the same, although comparing with a friend who did Physics 2 Advanced while I did PST the labs and WileyPlus questions are a bit easier. Plus PST has a much less insane exam.

Yeah, that’s a consideration, I’ve heard that overall P2A is better than P1A, so I guess I’ll just have to see. I’m mainly sticking it out because Second-year Physics subjects seem way, way more interesting and I’ve heard are overall better run in general (plus Quantum and Thermal has no labs - which is awesome!!)

2nd year Biomed Sem 2
1. BLAW10001 Principles of Business Law
Tanya is a great lecturer! Funny and engaging. The content is easy to digest, and the exam easy. It is indeed a true easy H1!
2. BIOM20002 Human Structure and Function (the integration of anatomy and physiology motivated me to continue working hard to pursue my dreams into medicine- I really enjoyed the subject)
3. PSYC10003 Mind, Brain & Behaviour 1
Chris is an amazing coordinator, the overall content is interesting and easy to understand
4. MUSI20150 Music & Health
5. BIOL10003 Genes & Environment
DAWN is DA BEST
6. Experimental Pathology (online classes meant I couldn't do the labs but the content and theory was really interesting)
7. MAST10011 Experimental Design & Data Analysis
8. MUSI20149 Music Psychology
9. BIOL10002 Biomolecules and cells
10. UNIB20020 Our Planet, Our Health II (interesting content, boring tutorials & the essay was kinda unclear what they wanted)
11. BIOM20001 Molecular and Cellular Biomedicine
Paper B saved the subject tbh and great co-ordinators (despite them changing the marks and structure of paper B 2 days b4 the exam  :P)
12. MAST10016 Mathematics for Biomedicine
Practice exam was so much harder than actual exam :(
13. PHYC10007 Physics for Biomedicine
plug: read my review
14. CHEM10006 Chemistry for Biomedicine
Super hard, unengaging lecturers, tutorials were poor. I learnt new things while doing my exam. I am so shocked I passed.
Really excited for my third-year subjects  ;D

Since I’ve completed my undergrad, I think this is pretty accurate. I’ve put all subjects into categories (enjoyed, liked, etc.) by subject code order, since I found it so hard to rank them individually.

Enjoyed:
BCMB20002 – Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
BCMB20003 – Molecular Analysis of Cell Function
BCMB20005 – Techniques in Molecular Science
BCMB30001 – Protein Structure and Function
BCMB30002 – Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics* (This would also be in the ‘liked’ section, I enjoyed cancer genomics more than the other topics)
BCMB30003 – Molecular Aspects of Cell Biology
BCMB30004 – Cell Signalling and Neurochemistry* (Same as for BCMB30002, some topics I enjoyed more than others)
BCMB30010 – Advanced Techniques in Molecular Science
BCMB30011 – Cellular Metabolism and Disease
BIOM30003 – Biomedical Science Research Project
EDUC20080 – School Experience as Breadth
MAST10005 – Calculus 1

Liked:
BCMB30002 – Functional Genomics and Bioinformatics
BCMB30004 – Cell Signalling and Neurochemistry
BIOL10005 – Genetics & the Evolution of Life
CHEM10004 – Chemistry 2* (also goes in the ‘found okay’, because I wasn’t a fan of quantum mechanics)
CHEM20026 – Principles of Chemical Biology
EDUC30072 – Positive Leadership and Careers
GENE20001 – Principles of Genetics
GENE20002 – Genes and Genomes

Found okay:
CHEM10004 – Chemistry 2
FNCE10002 – Principles of Finance
PHYC10006 – Physics 2: Life Sciences and Environment

Didn’t like:
BIOL10004 – Biology of Cells and Organisms
CHEM10003 – Chemistry 1
ECON10004 – Introductory Microeconomics
PHYC10005 – Physics 1: Fundamentals
