That is largely debatable as well and solely up to how you learn best. Like most people, I'm sitting on the fence with this one.

I personally would prefer private or maybe duo's.  I get awfully distracted when I am around people.

Omg I know, in class I can never get work done because I'm busy talking to the person next to me. My Methods teacher continually demanded that I stop talking throughout the year, and I had to do a lot of work at home =(

I went to this guy, although I thought it was only 90 an hour? One of the biggest reasons I went to him was because he was an examiner.

he looks like a complete tool.  i feel sorry for his students.  he probably doesn't tell them everything because he wants them to pay him $100 first, then when he tutors you, he *might* give you the time of day.  plus he wont mark your sacs apparently, and charges $45 per piece to mark other work.  complete joke.

he is not out help students, he is out to help himself.  probably wastes all of his tuition income on donuts rofl!
and police check or no police check, i don't trust him!

Was he worth it?

I think he is quite helpful but somewhat overpriced. I only went on alternating weeks from about mid term 3 onwards. I also get the feeling he is really busy a lot of the time so I found lessons generally went better if I brought him work and got him to explain how an examiner would mark it and what I could do better to improve the essay.

The thing is though a lot of English tutors don't seem to advertise that much and I found it very hard to find any examiners who held private tuition. I specifically wanted an examiner as a tutor which is why I was willing to pay to see this tutor.

Try to look around and see if you can find a tutor nearby that satisfies what you want from a tutor. Always remember, you should be in control of what you want to learn. Don't be passive at tuition, get your money worth and try to focus each lesson on what you want to improve on. Avoid contracts or pre-paying for a number of lessons. If you don't like a tutor, you shouldn't be under any obligation to continue paying them.

^^^what do you mean by he was really busy?

i would expect that he sits with you for the full hour undisrupted and does cartwheels if you ask him to for the exorbitant prices he charges.

and yeah, definitely no contracts or pre paying for lessons!

He teaches full time at Xavier as well as tutoring multiple students almost every single day. As a result sometimes he seemed quite tired, especially at timeslots past 9pm.

And I agree the price will probably discourage a lot of people. I'd encourage people to look around first before settling on one tutor. Always try to find one the works for you. As I said before, I went to him because I specifically wanted an examiner as a tutor and couldn't find any others who offered private tuition.

Yeah he sounds okay.  But I believe that a good tutor genuinely wants to help students to do their best, and charging those kind of prices to tutor from home is just too far I believe.  It doesn't really seem like he is helping anymore. $50 or $60 is absolute max IMO.

Plus, as you said he has a lot of students and other 'stuff' to fit in.  I would hate to need to see him leading up to exams.  You'd probably have to camp outside of his house lol.

And he claims to know 'texts.'  I doubt he knows every one.  Would he be willing to read one for you, because i know a lot of other tutors who would do it and for like a third of the price.
