Just a quick question in terms of the exam- can you answer questions with reference to a film/tv show etc that you didn't actually study in class? Like eg if I studied The Dressmaker in my own time and wanted to answer a question about codes and conventions with that instead of a film I studied in class, would it be fine? Sorry if this is a dumb question haha

I think that if you've studied specific texts in class, your teacher has chosen those for a reason. Your teacher must think there's enough that could be discussed on the exam with reference only to those particular texts. It would make sense to me that you only refer to those in the exam. Especially since those are the ones you've actually been taught how to talk about, and done practice questions addressing. Making reference to any texts outside of those just seems like you're making life harder for yourself.
