Post by: Louis23 on July 31, 2019, 07:25:26 am
I just wanted to make this page, so that we can share our results to each other and tell whether we got in or not.

Good Luck to everyone

I'm sure you will receive an offer from at least one of the three schools. Don't be so hard on yourself!

I applied for Elizabeth Blackburn Sciences... anyone else? :)

hi there! I’m sorry if you see me posting a lot lately ( it’s because I’m anxious and stressed )
I’ve been lurking around from the threads a few years back and found that they usually come out late in the evening ?? I’m not too sure though.
Also on Thursday only the offers will come out not the results, so you won’t know how you actually performed until the 28th of August :)

Sorry just one more question: Do you mean that they send out the result the night before the actual result day? Like this year they said the results are coming out on the 8th, so does that means the results comes up on the night of the 7th?

This is when I thinks that I’m 99% not going to get in but still wishes that 1% is going to happen  :-\
Feel like I’m going to get a low average for math  :'(  and btw if ur worrying about numerical, in Hendersons mock exams they said getting 27 right on numerical can possibly be a superior or a really high score above average as there’s like 70% people getting way worse than that

wait do you know any other percentages or something that are around a superior, like in reading comprehension, maths, etc

Ohh yea I’m quiet unsure if it’s the same for the actual test but this is what they said for a superior:

Math-29-33
Verbal-38-42
Reading- I think around 40-43 this year as sooo many people did well on this
Numerical-27-33

It’s still depends but I hope this is a bit helpful :)

Yeah same here! I have to take like 80 mins transport everyday for both macrob and nossal if I got in and Suzanne is like 50km away rip

My school is also super competitive as there’s like 80 people or more did the test and only 17 can get in :(

i think it honestly depends on how hard the test was for everyone else. If it was a hard, a score like 20-30 could get you a superior. But this year ie; reading was one of the easiest modules for the exam. So maybe a score of 45 might get a superior. For math and numerical i’m guessing maybe a 28-35. Writing however is marked differently, does anyone know how?

yeah that's what I was thinking.
I think writing gets marked out of 20 and you get Mark's based on creativity, grammar and use of literary devices. But then obviously when you get your actual results it shows up as average, high average, etc.

Yeah that’s definitely right; I doubt anyone would get anything below the score of average for writing except if they wrote a very off-topic or a non-structure at all piece, which possibly means that there’s going to be a lot people getting averages in writing(probably around 40-45%)

Guys, self-bashing is not a good way of managing nervousness. Be positive and pump yourself up. Probability is always there, to anyone, of making the desired school, just that some probabilities are greater.

Have your parents keep an eye on emails tonight, from before 9pm. Bear in mind this is only the first round. There are subsequent offers in coming weeks (as there are always people not taking up offers). And after all remember the fact that not going to a certain school does not affect your pursuit of your desired university courses whatever they may be.

Congrats to everyone who has (and hasn't!) gotten in! I've kinda been lurking on these forums getting nostalgic about me in this position a couple years ago... but for those who haven't gotten an offer: as much as it feels impossible to feel good about this right now (trust me, I know) it'll get better. If you guys can't already tell the system is pretty screwed up and mysterious; some of the smartest and most hard working people I know didn't get in and in fact A LOT of people I know who did actually get in did so through PD's/late offers (more than first round actually). I got in a week late and was literally in denial because I had convinced myself I was too stupid to get an offer... don't be like me!!! My best friend got hers literally a week before the closing date for offers. There is still hope. Don't beat yourself up. The fact that you care this much shows that yall are hard working and have goals so you're already 90% on the way to success.

Sorry if this is really out of place !! It's just what I know I needed to hear a couple years back when I was shitting myself waiting for results. You guys are all amazing :))

Hey guys,I am a year 9 student in Melbourne High this year. I did the test last year (obviously) and got 5 superiors and an above average (not trying to flex). melbourne high is pretty cool and one piece of advice to the people that got in suzanne: u guys are gonna be living the worst four years of your life, because thats what my friends said. but if you got in mhs ur all good even macrob. but u see the two co educational schools, yeah they just suck.  so welcome class of 2023 mhs students. also if u got rejected by suzanne be grateful. cya folks

your mindset is fuked

You can legit do well at any school if you have the drive and passion.

Whether it be a selective school, state school, Catholic school or private school.
It doesn't matter. (Yes some schools have more resources and better teachers and stuff but that doesn't mean your life is doomed)

Try ur best and u will succeed

Same, my first preference was macrob and didn't get in... about 15 people in my class got into Nossal and now I feel so bad for not getting in... I literally studied and prepared for this test for 1 Year. I worked so hard and not seeing the results I want is just so heartbreaking. There's this one girl in my class who got into Nossal and I helped her with everything. She used to be coming to me for help and now that she got in makes me feel like I'm an idiot for trusting her... 😢

Hey guys before I start let me say this:

Well Done! You have all worked so far, you have learnt A LOT from this experience that ITSELF deserves a congrats!!!

For those who got into MHS, SCHS, MacRob, or Nossal good job! Try working as hard as you are already (in case you winged and got in jk  :P) and you are sure to do well in school and beyond.

For those who did not get into the above schools : Do NOT worry. Now I know some of you may feel so depressed you would care not to even read this, but this is not the end. Don't think your hardwork is a failure, on the on the other hand, think of it as a foundation and a step to success. Learning never goes to waste. I got rejected from MHS and Nossal too, and like/not like you guys, I cried for days and days. Now, I teach some of my friends (who got in) about maths and science topics (those are my strengths) via social media.  Try twice as hard, and you can easily match if not overwhelm students from selective schools. Do feel like there is no point in studying at all Get rid of your nihilism, yes it is sad and yes you did get rejected, but no you are not gonna fail in VCE and no this is not the end of the world. Think about it this way: why did you even choose to go to this particular school, and, more importantly, what can you do to cover for this?

If this does not help you at all, think like this - what can I do next? Should I apply again next year? (Here I would personally recommend trying out for a different school, like JMSS or anything else). This way you can be motivated and, with your hard work, eventually get in.

So for both parties, (those who got in and those who didn't) : good luck! ;) ;) :)

yo I'm sorry for that
It can be really heartbreaking when not getting accepted whilst putting in so much effort
However it's not really her fault if she did or didnt get accepted and you shouldnt doubt trusting her because that doesnt make a difference

Only just saw I got some PMs. I am not on Atarnotes often and just don't notice the messages most of the time, sorry about this. Will just try to answer the questions here:

I heard before that the subsequent offers may arrive on any days / weeks this month. Say some people already declined the offers this week (to some it would be too far, and some others took the exam as an experiment to find out where they were), then those places would be re-offered as early as next week.

There can be a chain effect. If some places at macrob / mhs are made available and offered to people who got offers to the other two schools in the first round, then some spots in those two schools will come up.

As to PD, I agree with what was mentioned by others here. You want to show your abilities and passions in other areas. Like, while being a good academic student, you are also genuine on interests to a number of other things.

Hey Guys,
I was wondering if any of you know if you are able to get a second round offer while also having a PD, like for MGHS, for example, if you are applying for a PD currently (I am) is it possible to also get a second round offer? Or are second round offers for other people all together?

Thanks  :)

Hi there!

I got a PD for nossal, and we were meant to submit a portfolio by friday. A part of this is a personal statement to the question "why should we get a seat into nossal" in 200 words. I know that five other students in my grade (probably with a bigger portfolio of achievements than me) have also got a principal's discretion.

I really want it to stand out but I don't know how. Any tips or advice on what I should include in it?

Btw congrats if you got in!!  :) :)

Hey I did the nossal entry exam last year but obviously was not successful in getting in so idk if you would wanna take my advice  but oh well. The question "Why should we get a seat into nossal?", is kind of a confusing question lmao. Are they asking as to why they should select you or like why you want to come to nossal? If thats what they are asking, then i would recommend the following:

1) Think about how you will contribute to nossal. Do you have any talents and attributes other than your academic abilities. Talk about how you can be an asset to the school. Are you a positive person? Talk about how you help others and then give examples on how you helped people. Talk about your leadership qualities. Talk about your strengths.

) Do research on Nossal, like seriously. Look through the nossal school page and get an idea of what they offer, in order to show that you actually care about the school and want to get into the school because you actually want to and not because it's just another selective school. Using the information you have gathered about the school, think about how Nossal benefits you. If you can, clearly explain how Nossal's facilities will help your pursue your chosen career and how their various electives will benefit you. Maybe talk about Nossal's unique teaching method - (team teaching -  its all on their website)   ---- I think knowing alot about the school will set you aside from all the other candidates because it shows that you are actually interested but idk if it will fit the question asked but yehhh sorryyy.

My dumbass actually thought I was gonna be helpful ahhah

I'm sorry, If I confused you or gave unnecessary information (probably explains why I failed aha) but I think Nossal would want students that contribute to their school and use their facilities and resources wisely.

If your school reached the 5% rule (majority boys going to MHS) is it only possible to get a second round offer if someone from your same school rejects an offer to the school you want to go to, or can it be other people outside the school (I got a PD for MacRob very early Friday morning, first from my school).  :)

Apparently many of the questions here have been explained quite clearly either on the department website or in the information pack that the parents had received. So perhaps get your parents to explain to you or send you all the links they have got.

PD places are not obliged by the 5% rule, if I heard correctly.

(edit to add: if you get to do PD, you have a double shot: PD path and the subsequent offering path which is subject to the 5%.)

First round offers expire after a week if my memory served me - you only have one week to say yes. This means around Thursday the department will have pretty clear ideas on further offerings. Last year I heard stories of getting 2nd round offers just before / after that 2nd weekend. And most places would be settled in August.

Cheers!

BTW does anyone know what time they will come.

And also this Thursday does it only say if you got in or do your actual results come with it.

Good luck to everyone i hope you all get in   :D

Cheers,
Louis

My first preference was Melbourne high then nossal. I got a first round offer to nossal and a Pd for Melbourne high. Idk what I should do.

mhs is a better school as its the 2nd best in victoria so missing out on an opportunity like that would be a waster but in the end its your choice

Do you happen to know around how many second offers come out on average each year?

Remember the number of superiors are not what result in getting in to a selective school. I am pretty sure that it is the overall accumulated score for all the tests.
