let f(x)=sin(x) or wateva. Where x represents the number of days after september the 30th.
The question asks what date is it when f(x)=0.5. Now lets assume x=3.1 (i know its not, but assume).
So would the answer be 4th october or 3rd october?
the solutions have it as 3rd october?? help

Yeah I got confused about this before, too.
This is my interpretation: others who understand this concept more than I, please shed some light.

Day 0 End of day 1.
Thus: x = 0.5 = during day 1.

yeh so 3.1 is during day 4(ie 4th october). but the answers have 3rd october.

3.1 is day 3. It hasn't reached day 4 yet =_=.
You can't round up a day, it can be 3.99999 and it will still be during day 3.
Pretend your birthday is on the the 4th, you won't be a year older until day 4, even if its 3.99999 days you aren't a year older yet. You can't wait till its halfway through day 3 (3.5) and then consider yourself a year older.

Umm as bucket said above 3.1 is still DURING DAY 3
f(0) = beginning of Sep 30th
f(1) = beginning of Oct 1st
f(2) = beginning of Oct 2nd
f(3) = beginning of Oct 3rd
thus anything between if 3 <(or equal) X < 4 its still on the date of October 3rd.

so f(0) is 0 days after september 30 which is still september 30
