Victorian Selective School- Year 10 2023 entry

Hello,

I have made this thread to chat about the year 10 entry to victorian selective schools. I did the test last year for year 9 but sadly did not pass. Is anyone else giving the test this year for year 10? Does anyone know what the process is and when the applications open?

Thanks in advance :)

Nope. I am in year 9. Are you trying out for year 10 entry into a selective school?

I am want to apply year 10 Suzanne Cory. What are you meant to study for verbal reasoning and reading comprehension. That is what I did bad last year. Would really help with some advice. Thanks :-*

I think the test is basically the same. In year 10 they mostly focus on co-curricular activities and general school reports. They want a well-rounded student for their school. But if you generally want to improve your verbal reasoning, maybe try finishing vocabulary lists on vocabulary.com. They are really helpful.

For reading comprehension, read a lot of books. Make reading a habit and actually understand what you're reading. Try to deeply analyze stuff ig.

Thank you for your reply. What school reports are they expecting? What co-curricular activities should I participate in?

I think they want year 8 and 9 school reports. Activities such as leadership, debating, sports, music are really helpful. You can join sports teams outside of school as well. The applications are open and on the Suzanne cory one, they have another application form as well where you submit proof of your extra involvement. You can check the application and get an idea of what kind of things they're looking for.
