Title: UMEP Chemistry
Post by: angrybiscuit on October 09, 2019, 08:15:32 am
Hey everyone!
Roughly how many times do I have to be on campus for chemistry? I know there is a lot of lectures, tutorials and practicals and I just want to know just how many times I'll have to actually be on campus because I live pretty far away from Melb Uni.

(sorry for a late response, I haven't been active as of late)

Regarding chemistry uni extension, the amount of times you turn up at campus depends on the schedule you choose. I chose uni chem extension this year, and I have only gone to campus once a week, because I chose to have both my practical and tutorial on the same day. You don't have to attend the lectures (even many normal uni students don't go), but it's up to you if you want to attend those lectures. You have the option to watch them online, so I never went to the lectures. But regardless, three lectures a week is a pain (they are always on Mon, Wed and Fri btw).
You should take note that the practicals that run at night (6-9 I believe) rarely take place, since not many students choose chemistry at unimelb, more especially so in the second semester.
However, you don't really have to worry about the scheduling so much, since you always have contact with the UMEP coordinator through either email or facebook.
Good luck if you choose to do chem extension, it's very difficult from my experience (I just had the exam for it, so take my word for it)!

Sorry I didn't see this any sooner!
Thank you so much for this!! I've finished 3/4 chem this year and I've loved it so I'm thinking of doing UMEP Chemistry, will definitely keep this in mind!
