Who else is doing it? :P
Also how do you do well in it lol
-
Since my sister is doing Specialist Maths and Maths Methods, her maths teacher is forcing her to do it :( :( :( (she doesn't want to do it)
-
yeah, Im doing it, but I dont want to miss double physics. nooooooo
-
I'm doing it, but I'm also missing physics (a SAC) so I have to do it period 5/6 (my frees!!!).
-
Im doing it :)
Miss out on double english :)
-
I'm doing the Math comp toooo.
-
Practice for anyone interested!

i want to do it =(

i want to do it =(
Why aren't you doing it?
-
Im doing it.
Since this is viewed by many people,
i am keen on asking everyone this.
Q. What stratergies are undertaken by people.
Ive been doing this each year since yr 7....got 1 credit in year 8, and all borderline distinctions for the rest,
Like, any stratergies especially for the last..5 marks questions etc etc
Much Appreciated!
-
What I do is do the first 20 questions, then jump straight to the last five, look at them, work out which ones are the most "doable" and then do them. Then I just ignore the hard looking ones and go to the ones in 21-25. This way, you get the last section out of the way earlier (hence more marks), and you still have a chance of guessing/working out 21-25 (with a relatively good chance of getting at least one of them right).
Got a prize year 7-9, and a distinction last year, so it works. :)

Is the answer D (40000Km), or have I fallen into a trap.
-
its 48k. its the same tyres for all 4 wheels but tyres in front wear out faster.
i remember seeing this problem ages ago. the way i did it back then was to assign each tyre 1 'hitpoint'. each kilometre travelled would reduce the 'hit points' of the front tyre by 1/40k and the rear tyre by 1/60k.
obviously if you switch the front and back tyres after x kilometers travelled, you will get more than 40k.
so the question is to find the x at which you should switch your tyres, such that they will reach 0 hit points at the same time. which happens to be the harmonic mean of 40k and 60k, which you will see if you do all the algebra.
btw, is this a 11-20 problem or 21-30 problem?
i want to do it =(
Why aren't you doing it?
not in hs anymore
-
its a 21-30 from memory.
...BUT
Q. If the wheels on the front go till 40000Km for eg.
Then, we'd have to change to the rear ones. I.e now they can go till 600000Km.
However, those wheels on the rear have also already run 40000Km, and when they are placed on the front
they cannot create a futher distance of travel?
So, they can is on halt? I.e D?
Help lol, any justified answers
-
because the question says.... 40000Km on front OR 60000Km or rear
-
This is gay, I didnt even know it was this week and I've got two important SACs around this time. >_>

I agree with zzdfa
Assign each tyre HP of 1
Each kilometre at front will take off 1/40k and each at back will take off 1/60k
let x = kilometres tyre spends at front until change
let y - x = kilometres tyre spends at back until change where y will tell you how long the tyres last
Create two equations for each pair of tyres (front --> back and back --> front). Solve simultaneously for x and y. You get y = 48000.

My teacher signed up whole spesh class to do this... lol
-
Our year 11 3/4 Methods class is pretty much forced to do this. :p
TrueTears, how many prizes does Scotch get every year on average? I'm interested in comparing, since Scotch is reputably the better maths/science school between itself and MGS...

Hmmm, I'm not quite sure because I didn't do it last year due to sickness, but the year before I think around 6 - 8 people got it.
-
Between year 9-12?
-
Good luck everyone =D
-
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
-
...wonder if anyone would write up the solution to AMC :P
reckon Mao should do the honour LOL
-
someone post up 21-30 questions :)
-
Question 23 was quite the lols.
-
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
LOL SOHHHHHHHHHHH EASYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY I CLEANED MY ROOM.
lol anyways, it was ok, kinda guessed 2 - 3 of the questions, but for the 6 mark no multiple choice question, (Q 26), so pissed, I spent about 10 mins doing it, got the right working at the end but can't do a 2+4, and missed the answer by 1 ffs z.z.z.z.
-
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
are you serious about this?
did anyone get many of the last ones correct?
i hhad to guess about 5-6 of the MC and couldn't do any of the last ones where you had to fill in numbers >:(
-
I guess the Scotch guys are just uber if they think that was easy. =/
I did all of them up to 20, got 23 and 27 then guessed the rest.
-
It was quite hard! The fill in the numbers bit was hard. The reciprical question drove me insane, and so did the train station one.. And, that ascending number one. Was there an easy way to do it? I did it by trial and error, but finally got it, lol.
-
I did it by listing all the multiples of 6. The last digit of the number has to be 8 (or it doesn't work), so the last digit had to be 8. From there, you check out what multiples into a sequence with ascending numbers. Still kind of trial and error, but at least there was a "strategy". ^_^;
-
The one where you had to find the radius of the circle with those tangents, did you guys get B?
I did it by similar triangles.

That was exactly my strategy!
-
HAHAHA I did shit.
Didnt even do the last 5 questions really - just chose random numbers ;S
-
can anyone upload the AMC paper (if any) ...
just wanna have a look @ it since I didnt do it cos I was doing a SAC :S
-
That AMC thing was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH EASYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY I cleaned the classroom.
Didnt answer last 5 tho lol, and got another wrong for sure
-
OMG what the fuck was that. I couldnt get the euler approximation question. Lucky I took in my bound reference.

ROFLMAO, I had to use Mao's program for that question. :coolsmiley: :coolsmiley: :coolsmiley:

You're allowed references/calculators? >_>
-
You're allowed references/calculators? >_>
yeah, only at my school because we dont have carpet or tiles. We had to paint the dirt green.

LOL YES I AM JOKING
It was hard as, I guessed quite a few

lol some guy at my school took 3 guesses and got it on his third try, 578 :P

i got 578 lol...dont know how though
what was the answer to the 25 beads question?? :S

LOL you serious!?? I kept getting irrelevant solutions, so i circled a random :P (31)
How did you do it btw
-
Yep got 31 too.
Btw: was anyone allowed to take their sheets back? ( the qbooklet)

Oo ok thats cool... do you mind to post up the answers you put in cos one of my friends want to "confirm" his answers? lol
