Title: Stormbreaker's VCE journal
Post by: Stormbreaker-X on November 16, 2020, 06:53:44 pm
HELLO ATAR NOTES!!!
Yup it is me Stormbreaker, so today it 10 days until my first ever unit 3/4 exam (I am currently in year 11 doing a year 12 subject). So I plan to do crazy amounts of practice exams leading to the real exam and hope I get a study score of around 30 for this subject. So far this year I screwed up this subject because of online learning and everything. Anyway next year and the duration of this year I plan to keep posting here and give you all updates about my life. I find this a good way to keep motivated. Remember to tune in on my life during the holidays.

My goals and subjects:
ATAR aim: 86 minimum
Subjects: Ancient history unit 3/4, I want around 30 (this subject scales down too).
Math methods 1/2 (dropping it for further unit 3/4 at the end of this year). My goal for further is around 40-45+
Chemistry, I plan to get a tutor for this subject during the holidays as this subject was disastrous. I want a study score around low 30's RAW for this subject.
English aim (plan to get a tutor this holiday too for a head-start next year) around low to mid 30's.
Biology is going all right so far my aim is around 35+
Economics is probably gonna be my ace card, my aim is 45-49 (Averaging A-B's in this subject and won a class award).

Remember all you readers to post here as well so we all can keep each other updated and thank you for reading :)

Hi Stormbreaker! It's great to see another future Year 12 Journal here :D
I hope your exam went well! Do you have any passions/hobbies outside of academics?

Hey there, I do have a lot of interest in sports especially swimming. But because of that things that happened this year I can't do any of that, but I know I will get a chance to do those next year. What about you?

My unit 3/4 exam update: So I had my exam last week and it went decently well. If there is one thing I am glad it is that fact that I finished it as history was quite a long and time-tight exam. I will keep you all updated once my study score comes out. Now moving on to my school holiday homework, for English my school is doing Station Eleven, I am Malala and Price as well as the play known as Extinction. Currently I have almost finished Station Eleven (I really want a good score for English next year) and I have already read I am Malala before so I know the book well. My holiday homework plans are:
-Finish all unit 3/4 content for economics
-Finish a lot of content for further math (I did not do unit 1/2 of that subject so I know I am disadvantaged), coming from a former methods student I can clearly say that further math and methods don't have any overlap.
-Finish biology homework and go ahead if I can
-Chemistry is so far probably one of my worst subjects, I am barely passing this year so I really need a tutor in this subject and to start working my ass off over the holidays.
Exam update for my unit 1/2 subject:
English went well, chemistry was a disaster (scored pretty shit), methods (dropping it and failed the exam), economics I am so disappointed as I scored in the 70's which is pretty low compared to my previous scores I aim for a 90 or above and biology is not out yet. Well, thanks for reading and I will see you guys again soon.

Alright quick update:
I am procrastinating so hard and I am currently reading my year 12 text. I know for certain that I am improving in terms of my study habits, I know that I am going to get through year 12. Also some people in my class scored 100% of their test so that means it might be difficult for me to be ranked 1 next year (crossing my fingers that I can beat them).

Well the holidays started, now I am about to finish off my English text station eleven. My plan today is also to begin doing work for my other subjects (I got a lot of holiday homework).
Chemistry-A booklet to do and gotta catch up on content I did not learn properly in year 11.
Economics-Chapter 7 in the CPAP book and because I am motivated I plan to finish off the whole content this holiday and go through practice exams.
English-Finish all my text and watch the film in order to prepare for year 12.
Biology-Gotta watch 2 chapters worth of content on edrolo over the holidays.
Further math-Well the work for this subject is huge, I gotta do 3 chapters over the holidays plus watch edrolo videos. Since I did not do unit 1/2 it might be harder to understand the content.

Great to see you are using holidays wisely - please do remember to take some time out for yourself as well during the period. Really important. It's probably the last time you'll get a chance to relax properly, Year 12 is a long year.

Biology: Barely started.

Hi Stormbreaker! I'm a fellow '21 student so I don't really have much advice to offer, but I just wanted to say don't worry about not taking on too much right now. After doing a 3/4 for the first time, you definitely deserve a rest, especially so you can be at your best when school starts! Even the most high achieving, smart people I know don't always meet every deadline, and it's a definite struggle for everyone. Take it easy, and I look forward to seeing your future entries :)

I think the main thing now is to start working on it, even if you don't get through it as quickly as you'd like initially. If it's too overwhelming it might be worth making small to do lists with tasks you can easily start.

Sorry guys year 12 has been pretty busy, I got my first SACS legit this month. The year barely started so far I have been coping well at least for now. English I got a bit of homework to do, further math there is actually a lot of homework despite it being an "easy" subject, economics seems fine for now (I plan to go crazy with practice exams soon), Biology is fine too and chemistry oh dear it is one of the most hardest subjects I had ever come across. Nothing much else to say since it has only been 1 week in.

Remote learning again but the good thing is I am doing better this year than at the same time last year. Last year was a disaster, luckily I leant from my mistakes. Typical year 12 getting busy again my homework includes:
Economics: Finish off supply questions.
English: Finish a character profile (our school is doing Station Eleven).
Further math: From the Cambridge textbook finish a few exercises from chapter 2 and do a couple from chapter 3 (OUCH!). Falling behind again basically
Chemistry: Heinemann textbook finish off chapter 2.
Biology: Edrolo chapters 4a,4b and 4c.
TL;DR
-SAVE ME!!!!!!

Hey Stormbreaker-X,

Great to hear you're learning from your online learning experience last year. That sounds like a lot of homework, but year 12 is year 12 after all. On the topic of homework, may I ask how you are recording the homework you have? My school stopped giving out diaries a while back so I've been trying to find out how people are recording their homework to try peer pressure myself into actually recording it to haha

I normally just remember the amount of homework that I have, I am pretty lazy and don't write it in my dairy.

YOOOOO what's up everyone, year 12 is a pretty darn hard year so far I am struggling to keep up with the work. Not sure about other schools, but my school sets a lot of homework.
Chemistry: Prac write up and chapter 2 of the Heinemann chemistry textbook (pretty chill so far).
Biology: OMG chapter 4a to 4d on edrolo plus a practice exam that my teacher gave us. Not sure about you guys, but I don't seem to like edrolo much.
English: Got an essay to do from tutor, but other than that school has not set too much homework.
Further math: pretty easy so far, but a few chapters to do, but that is it.
Economics: Got a little homework, but I am gonna start cracking some practice exams soon.

I only found edrolo useful for methods and almost never used it for anything else. Wish you could choose what edrolo courses you want to get.

How useful you find edrolo for a course depends on if you’re finding it hard to grasp a concept and need another person’s way of explaining it, otherwise it’s usually too slow.

Good luck with getting all that homework done.  :)

For our English SAC we had an analytical text response on Station Eleven (I am pretty sure I aced that) but obviously I can't say for certain until scores are out.
Biology SAC: really hectic, we are 50 mins for 55 marks worth of question. So basically less than 1 minute per question. I am already sure that I lost over 5 marks already due to stuffing up a couple of questions, but I think I would score around 60-70%.

1. Rest up and enjoy year 12 as much as I can.
2. Do all my homework and catch up on the ones that I did not finish.
3. Go through to revise some content from AOS 1 again, it is important that content does not get forgotten.
4. Do practice exams and aim for rank 1 next term.

After that: All the homework that I have to do.

So today came back home from school my plans are as follows:
Prepare for further math SAC that I have next week, further math is pretty easy so I think I would ace it. Economics SAC would be the week after, but because I am good at this subject it seems to be pretty easy, I am hoping for full marks on my next SAC. I got my chemistry SAC back today and I screwed it up big time, I failed it :( IF ANYONE HAS ADVICE PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!

Hi! Beep boop here.
I'm currently doing 2 3/4 subjects. My vce journey hasn't been smooth sailing so far. I was barely passing one of them and still scraping my feet in this subject even.
The subjects I'm doing are:
bio 3/4
Vietnamese SL 3/4
methods
religion and society (I'm dropping this next year, my school made me do this subject)
chem
eng lang
spesh

I'm hoping to get a 30+ ss for bio and 39+ for Vietnamese. As for my end of year of exams, I'm quite nervous. I hope I'm able to reach my goals.

Wish me luck!
Beep boop over and out.

BEST OF LUCK!!!!

I got my chemistry SAC back today and I screwed it up big time, I failed it :( IF ANYONE HAS ADVICE PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!
Volkscience for Chemistry is pretty useful and concise with short video explanations (typically not more than 10 mins per concept) and notes for each topic so you might find it useful to subscribe to that.

It is the time where I update you guys again:
Economics: Now I am on my 6th practice exam this subject is my most confident subject by far, I also asked my teacher what study score she thinks I will get and good news if I continue to work this hard and score the scores that I get I am looking at a potential study score of 40+ which means I am over the moon  :)

I just hope that VCAA can see my teacher gives us really hard SACs and scale mine up at the end of the year.

Biology: So far we are doing immunity and it is going well, unfortunately the previous topic did not go well which was the stimulus response model, how the cells communicate, signal transduction and apoptosis (I scored 36% on the SAC). Still pretty upset over it since the first SAC was way harder and I passed it, it was on pretty much everything from term 1. The SAC I failed was legit 2 weeks worth of content. Oh well this is only 4% of my study score it can only go up from there. I am keeping a positive mindset.

Chemistry: First SAC didn't go too well either, I did not pass it and I hope to pass the upcoming SAC. Honestly I regret doing this subject, I should have dropped it ages ago. Terrible choice, I guess choosing subjects for scaling does have its downside after all.

Further math: Going pretty well, I smashing this subjects so far, I hope to score decently high in this subject.

English: I scored my cohort average which was disappointing since I thought I did good. *We didn't actually get our marks for Station Eleven just some feedbacks with indicators of our marks.

That's all folks thanks for reading and enjoy your day.  :)

Hey stormbreaker,

Since you updated on your progress. I might just update too.

Biology: my first SAC was a complete flop. Got below the class average. Which is a bit worrying considering that this is a year 12 SAC. I'm hoping to better next time round as the next SAC is one and a half weeks.

Chemistry: doing ok. I could do better, its just I'm still coping to the demands of VCE, even though this is my second year in it. My chem SAC is tmr.

Methods: I don't have any SACs for methods in this semester. Thank goodness. Kinda worried for my upcoming exam tho.

Spesh: I'm doing a SAC on thursday. I've been barely studying to honest.

eng lang: my oral presentation is next week. I've been working on that. I hope I get decent score for this.

Vietnamese: I've done 2 SACs so far, but my teacher still haven't given the marks yet. The teacher said no one failed in the first SAC, so thats a good thing I guess??

religion and society: doing a sac this week. The SAC has been divided into 2 parts and just did the first part on today.

that's all I have to say, I'll update you further.

beep boop over and out.

Good news for all :)
I got my economic practice paper back I got 91%, I hope you guys can wish me luck for my real economic SAC tomorrow :)
I am aiming for 95%-100% if I can get it.
My plans for once I finish year 12 is assuming I score high enough I plan to join the Regional Eduction Support Network (RESN) and support student who need it most. It is time we close the gap.

Update time:
Chemistry: SAC tomorrow and so far have not studied for it, I lost all motivation to soooooo bye bye study score of 25.
Further math: Going fine we are doing some financial stuff right now and I don't feel like it is too hard, so I guess I can still score decent in this subject.
Biology: IMMUNOLOGY IS MY FAVOURITE TOPIC, I love this subject now. I am not going to let one bad score stop me.
English: I am doing article analysis and so far it has been pretty easy, I hope to score well on this one.
Economics: Just finished the SAC and I think I aced it, but I will have to wait till marks come out and I will inform you guys on whether or not I could potentially still get a study score of 40 or above raw.

Update:
English: Currently doing article analysis and so far it is going great.
Economics: Still got a bit to do, we have our SAC on 21/06/2021 so quite a while left, but if you know me well I plan to go ahead. I got to make notes for the balance of payments, which I barely started going and then I gotta start cracking practice exams.
Biology: SAC date has changed so I got a while left, but still gotta study hard.
Further math: We are currently doing financial math and so far it seems to be going fine.
Chemistry: Yup didn't go too well as I expected, oh well you live to learn.
I am actually starting to like this remote learning thing, it isn't that bad.

Today I had a further math SAC and I believe that it went alright, I think I got a few questions wrong, but oh well. In fact this week I have 2 more SACs to go so wish me well guys :)
Our teachers submitted our S and N for the unit now and I easily got S for all of my subjects, but I am not so sure about my SAC marks as a few of my SACs where pretty unimpressive. I just hope I can redeem myself enough to get a 30+ although I can't be too sure.

Damn, I just had mine today too! It honestly wasn’t too bad (multiple choice was pretty straight forward) but I feel like I might lose 1-2 marks on the extended response section :(

Just wondering, how hard does your school make the sacs?

My school makes the SACs reasonably hard, roughly equivalent to how hard VCAA makes theres.

Update:
So far feeling sick I am have been absent from school for a few days now, I just hope I feel well enough to sit my SACs and do well in it.
Economics: Sac marks are back folks and I scored 87% which is terrible as I did worse than last time. Unit 4 was officially started too.
Chemistry: Got a SAC tomorrow and feel very unprepared, I guess I gotta cram in as much as I can.
Biology: I got another SAC coming up which is unit 4 biology SAC and I think for this subject I feel a lot more prepared.
English: Got a SAC next week and also starting oral presentations, luckily I am not a shy person or else I am screwed.
Further math: Nothing on at the moment except the further math SAC I had last week which I quite frankly think I messed up BIG TIME. :'(
Oh well as I always say you live to learn

So I think I worked out my rankings for economics:
The highest mark was 28/30, I scored 26/30 and this other guy scored the same. I scored the highest in my class :) but the highest in the year level beat me my 2 marks. I guess assuming that no one scored 27/30 I would be tied for rank 2.

So the school holidays have begun so far I intent to keep my journal as updated as possible:
-Homework: English orals have started and I need to get my first draft in soon!
Economics: Got some Unit 4 AOS1 review questions to do plus revise unit 3 content.
Biology: Edrolo 11A to 11C, but I intend to go further.
Further: Our school is doing matrices and networks and for the first time I intent to go ahead of my class.
Chemistry: Organic chemistry has started and I feel quite unprepared, just got some review question, practice exams and some stuff from the booklet.
YUP THIS HOLIDAY IS JAM PACKED!!!

Economics: Finally finished those questions YAY!

HEY EVERYONE, I am back!!!
So sorry I was not active all this time, I had to focus on my studies.
Economics SAC marks are:
83% for U3AOS3, which is pretty disappointing since I thought I did so much better. The cohort average for this SAC as also 59% so I am not doing too bad. All my subjects have seen an improvement as well, I scored 60% for biology which is a lot better than last time, but it is still below the cohort average. So far I feel bad for the rest of us year 12's that are in lockdown because we might miss on formals.

So tell me what you guys have been up to and while we are here, how should I revise for exams I know exams are only a few short months away and I am freaking out xD. I plan to just do checkpoint, Biozone textbook, VCAA practice exams, CPAP etc.

Finally got my last SAC marks back for economics today and I scored 80% which is my second last worst score just ahead of my lowest economic SAC mark this year which was 77%. All of those marks for unit 4 was a high B+ and for unit 3 it was an A.
