Hey does anyone know how I should study for the UNSW musicianship test?
Hey,
The tests 30 minutes long and had 40 multiple choice questions. The questions were on areas such as clefs, notes, scales, triads, chords, score reading and general knowledge. You need to pass the test to then upload your audition.
I went through a lot of theory stuff beforehand with my clarinet teacher (cadences, types of scales, duration (time signatures-simple/compound), key signatures, etc) and made sure I understood it. If you have any AMEB musicianship books, you could probably go through some of those (it's meant to be around grade 5 level). Otherwise, you could go through the staff identification section of this website, or work through some of the exercises in this one.

i just wanted to know I guess the basic ones that could come in the test since there are very difficult ones on the tone savvy website like B# dominant seventh first inversion

I don't exactly remember what was in the test, but try to know the basic triads (up to 3-4 sharps/flats). I don't think I needed to know inversions, or dominant 7ths.

3-4 sharps or flats in the key signature. So you'd be looking at: C, G, D, A, E, F, Bb, Eb, and Ab major, or A, E, B, F#, C#, D, G, C and F minor. Try to know how many sharps or flats each key has, and how to build triads with these keys.

Ps are there any links or places where I could know about chords by any chance? I did the tone savvy ones but I always end up missing one note from the chord

Awww thanks! Ps is it the same for a diminished chord? So you would add a flat to the fifth?

Yeah, so the diminished chord has a diminished fifth (so you would flatten the 5th). In our B example you would add a flat to the F#, which would make it an F natural. The diminished chord also has a minor 3rd, so you would flatten the d#. So, a B diminished chord would be B, D, F
