Title: How far can a SAC stray from the Study Design
Post by: Srd2000 on May 30, 2017, 08:47:30 pm
Hi all, I know that teachers must assign assessment matching the content in the study design, but how away can they stray? Like if the SAC was an application task in maths, how far can the SAC go?
Does this make sense?  Thanks

It shouldn't at all tbh... otherwise it would just be a waste!
The SAC may include things from other parts of the study design but I'm pretty sure they are not meant to include things that are never mentioned by the VCAA.
If you are in Year 12 I'm pretty sure they aren't even allowed to. (otherwise it's just unfair on you)

Hope this helps!

Well, I had a SAC in Specialist that involved integration using the disk method rotation around a horizontal line, which isn't explicitly on the study design.

Is this still about your SAC that I commented on yesterday?

Like I stated to you: they can go as far as they want, provided that the SAC meets the assessment requirements as defined in the study design.

well from anecdotal evidence they at times put absolutely anything on sacs. I'm pretty sure MHS spec sacs are ridiculously difficult - some content from uni 1st year to even 2/3rd IIRC.

I feel it's okay to go beyond the study design as long as the "teach" you the concept within the sac i.e. give you enough relevant information and/or examples. (VCAA does this sometimes :P - moreso for bio/chem though )

[/u].

This is about a SAC a friend did and it got me thinking. Yet also relevant in a way I guess

For my applications tasks the content itself wasn't actually on the course but the basic skills are taught in the course and the application was extensively explained beforehand.

For methods it was mean value theorem, which is a pretty basic application of differentiation

For spesh it was the logistic equation/endangered species model/predator prey systems, which just required knowledge of integration and differential equations.
